    Known issue of pets and hills

    Most of the steep hills entrap pets which are lost or abandoned. Some you can ride back for as they've submarined beneath the hill ans may reappear. I know it's a known issue but it's a big issue.

    Ghost form can be used to scout enemies and as fast travel. The longer a character stays in ghost mode the greater the physical penalty should be once resurrected at a regular priest perhaps.
