Sounds like you need to eat food high in stamina reserves, to replenish yours. Then you will have to rest less often. Be careful of your health reserves though, you will become overweight.

Creature control gives pet points. Advanced Creature control will raise your skill from 90 to 100. Leveling pets may also do this, albeit more slowly.

Who uses wood for handles? Realism isn't important compared to playability, but for the fun of the discussion I say there's a big difference between a stick flexible enough to bend as a bow, and one sturdy enough for an axe handle, for instance. Also, bow beats mage, skill being equal.
