Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

It's really rather funny. When they said crafting and combat were two separated profession lines the first thing I thought is "Finally, I don't need a PvP and PvE tamer as separate characters! And sweet! My fiance can be a thief AND a fighter! This is awesome!" *Pays to get alpha access* Then...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Yes. Anything that gives you an advantage DURING combat is an action skill. Weaponsmithing belongs in professions because the smith and the fighter don't have to be the same character. Character A makes the super-uber-oghmium sword. Character B the musclebound meathead Thursar who hasn't even...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Yeah, thieving is somewhat debatable and probably deserves it's own topic when it comes to things like pickpocketing. But unless there is a fairly good option to rip a weapon out of enemy hands or something I think it makes the most sense to put every thieving skill under professions. While...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

The fact dominated creatures aren't tradeable is the reason I said it belongs in action skills. It gives pets that can't be traded that are more powerful than tamed pets. I used that point to illustrate why it deserves to be an action skill and taming does not. What point are you trying to make...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Right? Every single primary on the "action" skill list is applicable to combat except for three of them and there isn't a single skill under professions relevant to combat. But let's get hung up on the name as a reason we shouldn't fix those 3 skills. We're here to police people's English and...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Thats sounds very romantic but I think I don't think much of anybody enjoys gathering resources 30 minutes from the places those resources are intended to be used as a regular thing. This map is big but not so big that anyone whose unencumbered with a halfway decent sense of direction will...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Fair enough. You can focus on those 1% of scenarios where you get roughed up in combat enough to lose your pets and mounts, live, are too far to make it to a stable (Because let's be honest 90% of fights will take place with 5 minutes of a town or keep) and you get just the right tame to...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Ah well. System is still screwed and needs to be fixed but you've convinced me to take dominator instead of tamer and learn to live with slower pet leveling. I think creatures that can be tamed are tradeable once bred even with dominated parents. So I can get all the good parts of your build...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

If thats your angle wouldn't a dominator build be stronger? Creature care is still prettymuch out. You could run to the nearest town and back multiple times before you get your pet leveled up but a dominator build can take a pet in the field AND has the advantage of being able to to take some...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Have fun trying losing a pet in PvP, somehow surviving, finding and taming a new pet, and expecting the nearest random pet you grab is going to somehow do better in the next fight. If that's worth 200 primary points to you I'm not sure what to say. Expect more?

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

If you're purely PvE focused that might work. If you're talking about PvP which is really what this game should be balanced around, when your max level optimal combat pet dies and you go tame the nearest wisent or whatever happens to be nearby, you're probably better off having spent the time to...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

"You actually have to go out in the wild in dangerous situations to get them and sometimes even fight them off or defend against them to get them. " You mean like ore, alchemy ingredients, fishing, wood etc? Because while they do have some gathering secondary skills under action skills for some...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

If I craft a sword I can use it or sell it too... And how does the way it's visually represented in the world make one bit of difference? The fact it's tradeable and can be used without the skills it takes to make it are the ONLY important distinctions. Also saying taming isn't crafting and...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

In terms of arguing semantics, the term craft may not apply. In terms of practical application, taming is crafting. It's an item with stats you can trade from player to player. There is no meaningful difference between a sword, a set of armor, and a max-level bear or horse in terms of how they...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Like how is this flying over anyone's head? There are 200 points in the domestication tree that are entirely optional if you want to be 100% effective at fighting with tames. Not 99.99% effective. 100% effective. 200 points that do literally nothing for me in a fight. They're not a prereq for a...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

No you're proving my point. So your issue is you don't want a fighter to have a fully viable tame right? How does keeping the skills to essentially CRAFT a tame under actives further that objective at all? "Oh I can use less points on certain skills" Sure. I can STILL use less points on those...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Here is the taming tree as it stands in MO2 Domestication (Sec) --Animal Care(Pri) --Taming(Pri) --Creature Control(Pri) ----Advanced Creature Control(Pri) ----Herding(Pri) --Beast Influence(Pri) --Beast Mastery(Pri) So the only primary prerequisite to any domestication skill is Creature...

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

Explain. This doesn't seem very logical to me. Because the way I see it certain non-combat professions are arbitrarily getting shafted for no good reason while everyone else is being treated appropriately. I don't see how addressing this problem could possibly lead to any form of power creep.

Taming and Animal Care (As they are now) Should be Crafting Skills

I'm seeing this is a deeper problem as lockpicking is also apparently under action skills when all thievery skills belong solidly under profession. There is a simple rule they need to follow when dividing action skills. "Does having this skill make me better DURING combat?" If the answer is...

Combat is boring, a note to Henrik.

I'm wondering how combat will feel when all systems are in with mages, tamers, cav etc. Traditionally ancient and medieval combat were a slow endeavor if you took heavy infantry vs. heavy infantry and had them square off against each other. Where things started to really happen is when say one...
