Pets Have Ruined the Game Completely

I already have a thread that has lingered on here for some time regarding pets.. But honestly, i needed to make another one.

Literally EVERYONE is a tamer now. Usually using bears or Taur dogs. It is PATHETIC.

They are so broken, and honestly.. The game feels unplayable for certain classes right now because of the sheer quantity of shameless people gravitating towards easymode; and you can bet once they get there, they will defend it and tell us all it is fair. We're seeing it happen as i speak.

"But I'm a thursar and i think pets are EASY to kill".

We're not all steel plated thursars you moron. Second, that only works on potato tamers, or a tamer who you catch by surprise and is afk. Any good tamer will just pull their pet away and cast on you, where you'll be too fat to catch them. When you go to chase the mage, they'll set the pet back on you. Easy. Or, if they're a melee tamer, they'll just bash you down whilst you're being hit from all sides. You can't block both of them, so you're fucked.

Pets are now in a position where they've been left for too long, and now everyone is using them. So now we'll have a bunch of people defending pets BECAUSE they use them. This is going to make it harder to persuade the devs to get this broken trash fixed.

Pets are basically PVE in PVP. You're forcing an NPC to fight someone who is a real player. You're forcing PVE on PVPers when you play tamers. This is antithetical to what should be the core design of the game. Full loot PVP.

I get it, the carebears are so bad at PVP they need pets. This game is NOT for them. STOP catering to people who are trash at videogames. They are SUPPOSED TO LOSE.

Pets are WAY WAY too strong. They are like another whole player when they're armored. So you're basically fighting two for one if someone plays tamer. That makes them better in group fights AND in 1 v1 (which is really 2v1).

Seriously, what is the point of being veela now when you can't even outrun a pet WITH CLADES.

They need a MASSIVE nerf, and they need to make it easier to collect them and train them so then people stop whining about how long it took them to train their broken trashy babymode pet.

This is NOT pokemon. Please put balance before realism when it comes to pets. PLEASE for the love of god. They are DISGUSTING and skilless.

I agree. I just got attacked by two necro players. I was taking damage from four sources. Mortal has become the game of perpetual uneven and unfun fights.

Its been a problem for a while, that the game is ENTIRELY gear based.
Doesnt matter if you're good or not most of the time, its simply about how much gear you can field. A 35g MA setup will never be able to compete with a 400g Beastmaster mage (or even worse a ritualist MA/MM, cant even escape coz their horses outstam yours and they still have a tdog at their side) . Considering the full-loot/ risk vs reward nature of the game, this is probably to be expected but i agree that it makes for incredibly unbalanced gameplay and it just promotes zerging.
Its also dumb how expensive it is to build a mage vs building a footie/archer. Its a few hundred gold at most vs grinding more than a stack of gold. If you consider the differences in time investment, you would kinda want magic to be superstrong, but it doesnt make a whole lotta sense gameplay wise.

Tbh before you could make pets quite tanky it was mostly a matter of a few hits for a melee but overall I think you are right that pets are too easy to use. Now with white bears and taur dogs this changed quite a bit as they hit like a truck also.
If they would at least reduce the standard attack dmg on players by a lot and would make only BM skills do decent dmg on players this all would make a lot more sense.
They would need to reduce the focus costs for skills tho but it would actually need player skill to make a pet useful. Ritualists would need to use a tupilak for pvp or be OK with having pets with less dmg... Atm it's too easy mode with obtaining risen pets compared to living ones for 100 points and a little gold cost anyway.

Leave it for pve as it is, make pets level way quicker and it would be better for tamers and non tamers.

Id say its shocking how any competent dev could implement pet armours and not realize how OP this makes certain pets….but SV has long since ceased to amaze me with how blatantly broken and unbalanced their new content always is.

I now believe this is in fact done on purpose, so that people have to spend time and resources to re-roll to the fotm OP meta, cause otherwise they just get owned. By making the old weak and obsolete you force people to have to play the new content, or get totally obliterated for months on end while they take their time to “tweak” (aka majorly nerf) their latest content.

Its always the same loop, and Its getting very, very, very old.

Exactly this. HOW did this even happen? It is so obviously broken, i'm shocked it even got into the game.

There is clearly some realism versus balance debate going on in the dev team. "We can't have a bear be too weak because it is a bear". Like, guys.. Seriously. If you're going to have a bear be as strong as or stronger than a player, you need to make it so the person using it is a complete gimp, like, they are only a bear user, and if you go up and bash them, they just fold like paper.

You can't have this two in one character. It just creates too many balance issues.

They'd be stupid to make people play tamer, it is the most unfun class to play. Sure, it wins easily, but my god is it boring to play.

back when henrik talked about BM the statement was this will make using pets take player skill and they will be way less effective without it. guess they forgot about that :p everytime i play BM and use the skills with the focus costs they have where you can maybe use 1 or 2 skills a fight i always wonder what exactly the plan here was ^^

i like pets overall and find it good that mortal is a game where you can use them but it needs to be one viable playstyle between many that also needs a skilled player to work...currently most grp fights not on a mount i am in with my mage are: INC, 1-2 taur dogs on me and with armor on no way your melees can do anything fast enough to help you ^^ before armor these pets would be dead in a blink at least but now they just kill the mages in like 3 hits and take a shitload of beating on top. besides a real BM who spends a shitload of points for useless skills compared to 100 points in ritualism get you most of the benefits with 1 click pets on a same level...this just shouldn't be the case as you can still be whatever you want besides spending these 100 points. just poor gameplay and skill point balance and design.

Agreed.
And it would so easy to fix this... just apply some kind of stamina so that the pets wont chase someone forever... or slow them down... or make the pets weaker for pvp, while strong in pve.

But instead, they add PET ARMORS to make it even more unbalanced !

What to expect from devs that think its intelligent to place guard towers all over the map ?

We've been asking for stamina for pets since MO1.... the fix is so simple

I agree that the pets need stamina, but they also need a predictable block direction like we had in the first game. I'm not asking for the pets to be center PARRY able, but center BLOCK able. Additionally, the pet pathing right now is insane. Chasing players up the side of mountains, across cliffs, etc. It's just cheesy BS.

As a pet user, using anything but a 125 in steel+ armor seems like you are just inting the pet.
As a pet killer, the DPS that the pet deals is to high for you to parry two targets or parry and fend off a mage.
Right now it's just not fun, and video games are supposed to be fun.

Pet armor tho. Haha. I can't believe they let people put tung armor on pets. I can't believe risen pets are so much better than regular pets.

The damage thing is a good idea, but having them hold aggro would also be good. There needs to be something defining about pets.

It's kind of 'off topic,' and maybe I posted it already, or maybe I dreamed it, but it would be kind of cool if you could raise your pet in its own way. Like, to be able to raise your pet to do one of three things: be fast enough to chase, do enough damage to hurt people, or be tanky. Pets would still be different, but as they leveled, they could develop in to one of three types.

A fast pet would be like what they have now, the police dog type; their dmg would be better than corrupt, but not much. They would be meant to harass people. Set and forget. It's hard enough having a pet biting your ass, you don't want it to be for double digits.

A strong pet would be able to do damage, but it would be used for targets who are focused on something else, then call it back to yourself or retarget. It would not be able to chase.

A tanky pet would be for pve, hold aggro, etc, or protect its owner. I honestly don't think it's out of the question to give some tanky pets regen, if that's their main goal.

Then people can have something kind of like breeding to do for their pets and their roles can be more defined.

I also support the leveling process being much faster. I want people to be able to play beast master. I don't understand having 3 pets; I don't understand why they let pets sticky people; and I don't understand why they seem to be focused on things like... making pets mountable, pet armor, etc, when the core idea remains unchanged.

Your pet should be a good ally. It should have a purpose, but you should also have to play the game.

I'm cool with magi, archers, and footies having a pet if they want to sacrifice the points, but it has to fit into the game. I also think wheelchair pet builds need to go haha. AS MUCH AS I LOVE KRANK. You should have to be on the ground to be a beast master. It should be a gateway to enjoying that part of the game.

Don't make people invest so freaking much in each pet so that they feel like it's their son or something. Don't necessarily let them be fodder, but understand that they are something you can use in a full loot game, that can die instead of you. Nobody should ever prefer getting killed to having their pet die haha. That's backwards. Then just make it so they can shape the battlefield in a unique way, not just munch people.

This. Especially pets I think should be pve main tanks. And some small ability to cc could be cool assuming they could balance it which is unlikely

Ive gotten ganked 4 times in the last 2 days by MC /MA combo, or MC / MM riding either steel armored bears or taur dogs.

This shit is absolute cancer. While mounted they run faster than an armored horse and are harder to hit, especially the small taur dogs. The MC do a shit ton of damage even if they hit you wile you are riding away from them (cause the taur dig runs faster than a horse?)
As soon as your mount is dead, they bot get off, and send both pets on you wile nuking you or bowing you down.
God forbid that you get knocked off your horse by the lancer, and you are dead before you can even get up.
Even if you manage to dismount you are against 2 pets that hit insanely hard for how tanky they are…..and you havent even started fighting the 2 players….

There is absolutely no way to fight this. Mounts that can be used as a fighting pet and are impossible to kill or parry and go faster than horses while fully armored are simply insanity.

Im done with this shit game for a few months. See you all once they fix this ridable armored fighting pets that cant be blocked and will chase you forever.

I like this idea, but if you're going to hurt the damage they put out in PVP that much, you have to reduce the skill points it takes to have a pet, otherwise it would be worthless.

Personally, i think they should make the skill cost for good pets much higher.

I'm fine being killed by a giant armored bear IF the player using it is a non-entity. As in.. All they are is a person with no skills outside of having a pet bear. Basically, a puppeteer. Make tamers puppeteers, useless without their pet. Or someone with a EXTREMELY limited set of skills. In that instance, you can kind of allow pets to be as good as a player.

I mean, tamers really touch on a greater issue the game has : hybridization. If we look at the "meta" builds, they're all builds that try to do everything. In turn, this suggests there are too many skill points in the game; which will only get worse with the veteran system.

You put yourself at a HUGE disadvantage by not being a hybrid.. Where as the game would be WAY more balanced if it boosted more specialist play.

Like i said before, would a tamer be so bad if all they were was a person who could do nothing but command a bear?

The taming and training of pets is too tedious for them not to be respawnable, so i agree tbh. BUT it may have a huge impact on the pet market, which is why they'll probably never take that approach. Something they can trade this out for is just making it way easier to train them and tame them. This will just make pets a more reasonable price on the market, instead of this overinflated nonsense.
