Dark is not better. Interesting is better. This is a magical universe and in some places that magic should be evident. This could be a glade with green particle effects or more vibrant colors in the jungle and colored forest. This could be the area around GK constantly covered in black clouds and lightning instead of this dry uninteresting dead area.

Ideally, I would like to see both.

I'd add that there are some areas that are quite grim and dark in this game already. Risar dungeon and spider cave both come to mind. Spider cave is a maddening labyrinth occasionally lit by a corpses torch or a luminescent mushroom.

Hopefully polishing passes will enhance existing areas of interest and add new ones. Already the increased numbers of ruins around the map are making it a lot more interesting to me.

Looking at old MO1 footage I think the first game had better atmosphere, especially the lighting and sky, but the sequel is obviously much more technologically advanced. The sky and lighting are all heavily WIP and seems like they want to improve upon it a lot. Hopefully it will gradually match the first game at some point. (And of course, surpass it)

Grim environments tend to look terrible graphics-wise.

And are you asking devs to remake the entire map?

Imo what we have now is more realistic and simply looks better than bare rocks ever will.

I think the only thing that's missing is the weather system.

If you find a storm in the game and close your eyes it sounds epic.
The thunder and howling wind are just perfect.
Open your eyes though and the whole effect is spoiled by the fact your standing in a beautifully sunlit area except for a tiny area of raindrop around you.

Some dark clouds, fogs, lightning flashes etc would really change the whole atmosphere of the game.

I was really disappointed the first time I got struck by lightning without the visual effects.

I just wish they would turn down that blinding sun. I swear they did the same in MO1 and had to tone it down because it was such a nuisance when pvping.

Yes, a couple small bright happy areas to ward off the scaries. Other than that I want this game dark and terrifying.
