The number of players with subscription is much higher than the number of visible players in the steam charts: First, nobody is playing 24/7, means the number of playing account is at least a factor of 10 higher than the numbers in the steam charts. And second, the steam charts are displaying the public steam accounts only. Steam accounts set to private are not displayed. In our guild about 70% of all players are using a private account.
You're right. I'm just an idiot. Everyone's profile is private and MO2 has 10,000 people subbed on Epic. GOD IM STUPID1765513004018.png

This game has another interesting revenue model, in that you can buy the game and play it for free forever, but you have the option of buying premium status which increases your XP gain and daily Grace on login. The higher tier premium options include Plot Tokens which allow you to own and maintain one plot of land per token for one month. The game also allows you to own one Grace Plot which is paid entirely using Grace.
I play that game. It's literally buy to play. You also get a plot per month you can easily earn in game.

Here's another Wurm Online:
Small sub (otherwise capped). If your sub runs out crafting and such is brought down to irrelevant levels however you retain the ability to sail ships, ride horses, ride carts etc.
Then all the money in game, even when you get it from game actions is bought by players. Allows some people with little time to buy money (for deeds trade, etc). Allows others to earn it through grind.
Sounds very P2W right? Well it works. A lot of people wouldn't have been playing if this wasn't an option. Also earning money has some weight to it.

MO2? I'd like the option to be able to login and keep my stuff when I'm not actively playing, or just look around. RIght now I have a sub for playing once per mon th. But then again it's an honest monetization. The old pay sub play game from my childhood (except runescape which allowed you to play free to a point).

This approach of a free game with an optional premium sub that gives you bonuses (50% more drops, skillcap raised to full and etc...) is the best modern way to monetize MMOs.

But these geniuses at SV make you pay a 40€ box price first AND an additional sub on top. No wonder nobody plays anymore.
