If it's made a secondary, that's even more of a "screw you" to people like me that want to be tamers than SV forcing us to purchase alts to be viable on our combat mains. Nobody is going to buy pets from us if everyone can tame their own pets for free. And as much as some people treat profession primaries as free in the topic I made on this subject, they absolutely aren't.
Don't think so. Once trade deeds become available, not everyone would even want to go out of town to potentially waste 30m-1hr to get a horse.
So it will just add a competitive aspect, potentially increasing chances of PvP between tamers.
Tbh, Taming and Pet Points should not be a part of action skill tree.
Those benefits e.g. Advanced Creature Control provides should go to specific "beastmaster" action skill subtree, and provide greater benefits to those that rely on combat pets.
Whole pet system needs a revamp overall though. E.g. pet points should be completely removed and replaced with pet "slots".
Player should be able to always have one "pet" slot. For a horse, donkey, small non-aggressive creature, etc.
Combat pets should take different "slots" that get improved with "beastmastery" sub-tree.
Also, "Beastmastery" should provide different active skills that are for combat and unlocked by investing points.
Some extra attacks / commands for the pets would be nice to have.
And you should not be able to command a horse to attack at all without it. Thus solving combat vs profession dillema.
