Disconnect should have the exact same effect as logging out. There is absolutely no reason to have a different timer that overrides "zone rules". Come on SV ;)

The disconnect rule appears to be a hard counter to logging out in dungeon. What they could have done was make the log out timer in dungeon 3 hours. Unsure why they did it the way they did it.

I'm guessing it's because they also want to discourage reds from committing crimes and then ride off to hide somewhere in the wild and then log out in order to avoid any bounty hunters in hot pursuit. Now that the world is so large there's a lot more places to hide oneself.

This change could mean that committing crimes will need a coordinated effort between large numbers of reds who are willing to cover and defend their partners in crime.

For instance, a red who'd just murdered a blue would have to flee to Kranesh or Gaul'kor, and an army of other reds would be there ready to fight off anyone trying to hunt down the murderer.

This change has the potential to make the game much more involving and tactical instead of the old days where committing crimes was a casual and nonchalant affair. It might not look that way now, but someone in SV probably thought of this and they decided to make this change.

@finegamingconnoisseur I think you are overthinking it.

So far this change just makes people not want to leave town because they dont have the time to go places and then return to town. The old system no one logged out while criminal to hide and no one followed red players away. Most of the time you just drop or trade it to a guildy your stuff and ghost to Cave Camp to get rep in the past.

Most people wouldn't waste time running after a red player even if they couldn't log out why have a lot of people spend all that time to chase down one person when they all have better things to do.

SV has only stated so far that the logout system was to stop Combat logging, siege delay logging, and logging in dungeons.

One thing I think they should add is that if you are a criminal then you cant start a log out timer. Would be funny if a criminal had the 30s quick log out in town right now.
