Most people will hate the idea of NPC guards but honestly it does kinda make sense with the rest of the game mechanics. MO1 guilds spammed max npc guards in their tc. why didnt they have to manually defend their TC, isnt it a player driven game? And theres guards in town. Why cant we remove guards from town, I thought its a player driven game? So theres no reason the guards couldn't go with you. A rich merchant could easily hire tons of guards to transport valuables.
Its almost like 90% of the game isnt player driven. Theres a standing system so people can sit in npc towns safely. And 99% of trade, butchery, banking, using vendors, etc all happens in NPC towns.
This game is zerg to win so its only fair that people can counter the zerg with guards. Otherwise its just biggest group wins and smaller groups have 0 chance.
