With the addition of voice chat in this game, I was wondering how most would find the idea of incantational magic added at some point in the future once the currently planned schools are done. In other words, this can be magic that is used by using the in-game voice chat combined and integrated with a voice recognition algorithm to cast certain magic spells.

These spells wouldn't even have to necessarily be offensive in nature outright. Some examples I had quickly brainstormed were more utility-based spells that you don't have to constantly spam, such as the current Lesser Heal, potentially having you suffer from voice fatigue or annoying others. Maybe something that has a semi long-term use like creating a bright glowing orb for better visibility in dark areas or a spell to create a temporary barrier wall that can be placed in front of your character to block the path of enemies. They could even be spells that you could toggle on and off with the proper incantations while constantly draining your mana.

I was thinking it could easily be incorporated into the lore by using an in-lore language for the spells. So for example, the light spell wouldn't be used by simply saying "light" but whatever the word for "light" is in the language of Nave.

Some possible unique properties of this school could be that it doesn't use reagants since the incantations serve that purpose. Or maybe even weapons can be used simultaneously while speaking the spells. Lots of ideas there.

What do you guys think? To ambitious? Too annoying for public voice chat?

Edit 1: Some additional notes after brainstorming some more.

I was envisioning that this is a more advanced school that is decently rare to find and get. The Lore book that would be required to read to even begin could be dropped through some kind of hidden quest line that may involve a few bosses. Something similar to learning the Spiritism Portal Lore. On top of that, you would still need to scribe the individual spells into your spellbook which hopefully we all be equally as rare. I'm envisioning that to unlock all of the spells, it would require some lengthy investment of traveling and hunting down spell scrolls that comes from all different areas of the game. Of course, some thought would have to be put in on what spells would be allowed in this school and whether you would need primary or secondary points for it (likely the former).

Three thoughts:

Cool idea, but there's currently been no reason why those who don't speak can't play all aspects of the game. This would create one.

In-game voice chat can already be pretty annoying in unpredictable ways, not that the fact stopped Star Vault from putting it in to keep up with other games that have it. Kind of a moot point.

It would have to be very good voice recognition (better, say, than the functioning of the average Echo device made by that company with the initial A) in order to not get scrambled by ambient 'other voices' that it picks up because other players are blurting stuff that your mic can pick up —or something.

I have a couple of others, but those are enough to start.

I can already see how "alexa ramdomly beeps" would translate here to "Henrik cast Locust Swarm on myself"
I hadn't even considered that. In thinking about how Hockey Puck could (apparently) misunderstand the nature of an SV-designed system, I thought of the many, many ways in which it can make errors. 😱 also check blog
