Sure. There are 4 horse speeds or gears, each is faster than the previous one, and depending on what horse type you are using, will use stamina or use it at a higher rate. Horse speed is impacted by a horse's gear or gate, it's weight and it's type. A horse with armor and bags will move more slowly than one without. If you double-tap the forward movement key, you will enter 4th gear, and get a short burst of additional speed, at a high stamina cost.
Some horse types like the Steppe Horse for example will use no stamina, and regenerate stamina if not full, in 2nd gear, while others like the Mongrel Horse WILL use stamina in 2nd gear.
