No I think a fight with a dragon on land would be balanced. You could even implement some kind of... shout magic that can tether the dragon back to land.

Oh wait... if dragons were added into MO then iT wOuLd Be JuSt LiKe SkYrIm

Hey I wasn't the one that asked about dragons.... just hearing about them and how it could be possible to ride them. The only reason I brought up gliding is to make everyone be able to enjoy some kind of flight.

It really sounds like its greatly based off Starwars Galaxy. Before everyone had Jedis, they had it were some people could be if they got that far. And just using that char is nerve racking cuase you will be hunted. The dragons themselves will be a great value to tamers, dominates, crafters, fighters, and mages. To me, dragons will be sawed after by everyone.

Picture 5 different dragons with different elemental abilities. Mages could use them for enchanting items, different empires could harness them for full scale wars, crafters want them dead for testing, fighters want a challenge, and I dont see why some dude jumping from a wall or top of a cliff and landing within a few seconds by glider would really make a difference. At least by the time dragons come out. Also if they are even rideable.

Even though I do recall a old MO1 picture with someone on a dragon... and plenty of dragon scrolls. One said heal dragon :O

I always find the "ArcheAge" has this and that argument funny. Asian MMOs usually don't give a fuck about their setting and they lack depth to begin with. Unless they are some kind of historic MMOs.
ArcheAge also has cars and motorcycles and shit.

MO doesn't even have gunpowder or shit. And as fart as I know there aren't any real magically driven mechanisms in the lore outside of magic itself. Maybe the doomsday device.

I just don't see any flying vehicles as viable in Mortals setting. So levitation or flight magic and maybe some kind of flying monsters/beasts, but nothing crafted that just anyone can use.

I would hate to see levitation, everyone would jump off mounts or cliffs and just float down..

I guess we can just build ballistas for everything again.... uhg, this game has so much depth and it seems like more people want it to be simple.

I hope they implement gliders down the road when dragons become rideable. I still think there should be some fairness in the ability to fly. If that is a direction they want to go with dragons or other flying creatures. Otherwise, if they do let things just fly and attack without needing to land, or without being brought down by some form of equipment, just would seem fair. Not equal by any means, dragon riders will still be very power if they are implemented. But still gives all players the chance to float if they can't or dont want to have a dragon as a pet.

For everyone who put this idea to ArchAge, I must say, dont mistake a simple a MMORPG vs a Hardcore MMO Sandbox. The point of a Sandbox is completely different than in a RPG..

The point of a sandbox is for it to be open ended and built around opportunities for emergent gameplay. Some of the best RPGs in history are sanboxes in some form or another. How did you land on these being opposites?

Ones completely based on a story and has a pure grind factor that doesn't allow you to be whatever whenever.

The other is freedom within limits, the more the developers put into it the more you can do. Doesnt matter if you change your mind, or they add something new, the game gives you the freedom to be whatever whenever.

That's the difference in my opinion.

Also open world games arent sandbox, to me it's a different topic of gaming. Like playing levels in mario or playing on a map in CoD. They are the stages for us to perform. While rpg, sandbox, fps, battle royals, ect., are what we are really playing. I feel lots of companies spread these out within their games. Just like you said, although MO was the only game focused on giving us only sandbox. 100% player based, what we do runs the game. That's a pure sandbox. No rpg missions or story to follow. Just random things you can do throughout the game as you please. Lucky they put lore so if you wanted a RPG feeling, it would be easy to roleplay based off the lore they established, just go based off the conflux occurence.

It's why I love Sandbox, you can do whatever is allowed. The more the marrier, I believe in star vault on making a real sandbox.

You know D&D is an RPG right?
I never said open world I said open ended. You either misread or you tried to predict and answer an argument I was never making.
Mortal online is an RPG and a sandbox. Easily.

Its also not the only game to follow this model, there are other games in its class, i made a list of them all awhile back for r/mmorpg, but.. i like MOs systems best. Thats what it comes down to for me. Good systems and good amount of freedom make for a good sandbox. Every game has limits and rules, or it wouldnt be a game, it'd be a toy. Everything is relative.

Before you get hung up on the D&D bit, my point on that was that it is incredibly open ended with a good DM and allows for pretty much anything to happen within the game world. Nothing is set in stone, and you can pivot at any moment to do whatever new goal you come up with. Like a sandbox, its not linear and there's no set objective.

Not gunna get into D&D it's litrerly a role play game. It does follow the sandbox theme based on what book your playing but you still stick to your character once your playing. Cant start as a mage and go into a battle tank. Just doesnt work lol..

Either way, Mortal online is by far the best Sandbox game that has hit the market, next to ultima ( only cuase it's the reason mo exists)

Thanks for a real debate!! Its appicated greatly!

I'm guessing levatation is better than. I dont see the problem with it. Especially with how big the new world is
Problems I see is the DF one, making walls useless. Second is how horrible it will make the terrain look while in the air looking around.
Third might not be a issue but might be as ghost scouts where bad enough but flying/gliding/levitating scouts might be even worse.

This time we get real foliage where you can hide a warparty and ambush, this will be less useful if flying monkeys can spot you from how far the view distance will be.

I agree sense we can hide next to tree properly or any where. Why not have gliders. You could land in an ambush. Or hit a tree, bad landing. I see it being fun and allow others to take advantage of fliers sense eveyone would shoot them down for free loot.

There is bee's wax so we should be able to make wings from them.

I feel the same way. Leather, wax, and wood. Crafter by a construction guy. Shoot it with arrows or magic and it breaks em. Seems fun to me. Shooting down flies is already fun!!

Yeah, or fly too close to the sun and crash that way.
