Its gonna change alot of immersion in the game to be able to see yourself on the map at all times
we discussed this
the concept of not having a map indicator is a big thing that impacts how different this game is
to create a more welcoming place for new players
a good idea would be to time lock the map indicator

to have something like a map indicator till specific clade level or something similar

Quality of life and modernization have been one of the few things that I think have been an improvement.

Still things like footspeed levelling instantly or armor training leveling quickly do take away that feeling of leveling your character.

Maybe the map marker would be one of those things that feel like a loss after a while.

Wait they are adding a map with GPS now? One of the cool things about the game was the exploration while actually learning landmarks and shit to navigate. This is one of the only games were you can actually get lost and that was awesome.

I guess they want to keep chopping off the sandbox elements until we get a generic Albion clone. Just add yellow zones already then ffs

I voted against the map indicator! Knowledge of the map and of the current location is an important factor. I would even like to remove the map and the compass at all and replace them by lootable items.

One of the main selling points of original MO1 (and by extension, MO2) was knowing how to navigate your way around using nothing more than the natural terrain, points of interest, and your own intuition. It appealed to a certain segment of gamers who were wired to wanted this as a core feature, not an accessory.

The current in-game map and compass are a luxury and privilege that straddles the middle ground between SV's original vision, and catering to modern expectations. To add a marker showing your current location, would step out of that middle ground and turn this game into something it was never intended to.

In short, it would no longer be a Mortal Online game. In the same way that adding full looting to WoW would make it no longer WoW.

I think it's happening.

Anything that could point to that happening?

because I think more people will vote for it than against it and that we are in the minority. I dunno if I care or not, tbh, there is already plenty of shit in the game like arrows, signs, you can already tell where you are by TC. Maybe I am wrong, but I think the survey is gonna really tilt that way. I didn't even think they would ask that question. Them asking that question, to me, is pointing toward it happening haha. It might not, but that's what I am following. That + how I feel the active player base will vote.

That's not a good sign.

The game already feels very grindy and tame compared to MO1, adding a map indicator just adds to that.

It now genuinely makes me think the game is headed in a very different direction than what I thought way back in alpha and even up until recently before the whole caravan campsite thing they added to dungeon entrances.

If what you say turns out to be true, that more people will vote for it than not, then a part of me feels like we old MO1 vets are being slowly but surely pushed away in favour of the newer crowd who have a vastly different concept of what MO2 should be, one patch at a time.

Lol, you guys raging at a map indicator with statements about "hardcore". Nothing about not having an indicator is actually hardcore, just tedious.

I don't think it's tedious at all. When you learn the layout of the land and can navigate it on the move like second nature, having to stop every now and then to bring up a map and see where you are would feel more tedious, if you ask me.

Adding a map indicator just takes away another piece of MO's original core vision, which is fine if that's what SV wants. It's their game, after all. But it will feel less and less like the game they originally pitched to its old fanbase all those years ago.

We are not so much raging, just disappointed that the game appears to be heading in a different direction than we'd have liked.

The game took that vision, rolled it real tight and stuck it where it'll never see daylight again. And that was done when unlootable gear like trinkets got added first and foremost. A nonsense decision, those should've been made craftable off the bat like jewelry in UO.

Besides, not having a map isn't an issue "once you learn the map layout". So, what exactly does it add that doesn't get turned into a non factor after a month of playtime?
I can bet you it turned away more people than it brought to the game.

I agree. Just calling it. I feel sad about other stuff, but this isn't as bad as some of the stuff they already added.

I'd enjoy seeing different game play styles. Like MMO / Sandbox haha.

Sandbox would have all of the old stuff, and MMO would have the new stuff they added for new players. They maybe you could switch. The idea would be that a player can, say, make great gains doing daily tasks, but as a sandbox player, you couldn't do daily tasks, but your overall gains would be boosted enough that you would get it back if you played.

I dunno what the map trade off would be, though. I would even take a color difference that showed people were in "MMO" mode. I am aiming with arrow tip still; I would enjoy like a 2% damage bonus. haha. Stuff like that, dunno. I think there has to be a middle ground, but you have to give people a chance to make it up thru vet knowledge. I def don't think the game should be only vets and that it should be as hard as it was for us as nubs, but it should not be so easy for semi-vets. Or for nubs to become vets.
