AFAIK looking at what UE5 has to offer, I think rivers are just in a placeholder state. If they use the water tech that comes stock with UE5 and swap out the rivers that they are using now with stock UE4 tech, it'll fix most if not all the things you mentioned. The unreal 4.26 water system...

I find the trick is combining parcel runs with other activities make it a lot more bearable. Running between two towns, do it as part of a group and do pvp between and you might do a net 0 but you had fun doing it. Do it as a part of a group and move goods to flip on the markets when you run...

In a group that doesn't end up in a situation where you have to run, very strong. But generally not worth. You need to be able to outrun or at least run as fast as people who outnumber you.
