Making separate regional servers for hardcore sandbox MMORPGs is a very bad idea, Darkfall Online was a great example (it was all ok before they opened NA server). I hope that MO2 devs will stick to one global server only.

If you have no time and no human resources to protect your territory, then you shouldn't own it. I remember we used to protect our holdings literally 24/7 in Darkfall Online.

Actually, the New Dawn DFO 2018-2019 relaunch ("fan-made") was basically what the original DFO should have been (class distinction, gear affecting gameplay, no fast travel, local banks and markets, e.t.c.), but unfortunately devs made bad decisions handiling money they got and went bankrupt.
