Mounted archery/foot brid is already the dominant build in the game, it is oppressively strong vs any other build. You guys will cry about anything. If anything horses need nerfed not buffed. Fine you can have your fleeing pets but while were on the topic of immersion. One arrow center mass kills any animal except an elephant which takes three. Go shoot a local bear center mass with an arrow and see if it lives.

Cougars are pretty bad, only a meat shield pet at best if you don't feel like going further for a bird, taur dog(basically bear with different model) or bear. Probably 90 taming to get the young ones pretty easy as far as cougars go though.
