This change will undoubtedly get SOME backlash from a vocal minority of the community; but these people are shortsighted and wrong.
I'm going to explain why this addition is actually genius.
This game works on player interaction primarily. You've cleverly designed the game to allow player interactions to occur naturally. However, it often felt like the GMs would sometimes get in the way of some of the more... Negative player interactions.
Allowing drama in a game that revolves around player interaction as content is KEY. In, essence, drama makes player events meaningful.
Now, nobody is saying this should be taken to real life, and that is certainly where the line must be drawn. But any insulting held entirely within the game, about the game or how someone may play it, should be completely fair game.
Someone slanders someone's real life? Obviously that can't be accepted. Someone threatens? Again, no.. Of course, you know this..
This chat however, has now allowed ingame drama to flourish, and in doing so, has made the conflicts more meaningful. Already, after just a day, the game feels more alive, with more emotion and more meaning behind what is happening. That is EXACTLY what you want to make the game thrive, and to enhance player interactions.
So yes.. Not sure if anyone reads these forums, but this was an excellent change.
