I picked human for my mage mainly due to the impression given by the description of this clade gift that suggests it applies to magic too, I was aiming to get reduced friendly fire damage when I drop a big elementalism AOE on a clump. Really disappointing it doesn't work as it is described, but I guess it should be expected this is hardly the only description in the game that doesn't line up with actual behaviour.
