would be easier to make a starter hammer, axe, dagger, spear as selectable items instead of only having 1 sword, removing the sword is just gonna make new players more confused and annoyed when they dont know you can just pick some plants to sell instead of trying to punch zombies for 3 damage.

Tbh this should be a no brainer, select a free bound weapon of your choice equivalent to the current sword while in Haven, when you leave Haven it disappears, same with the torch.

If you haven't done the tutorial or farmed 10g worth of stuff before leaving Haven that's a you problem.

If you use Haven well you should have no issues making a simple weapon or buying from the vendor. Not to mention you can easily find people who are willing to make simple weapons for free or next to free in most towns.

If they made the starter sword vanish upon leaving Haven, I think the griefer will simply resort to their fists which is the closest equivalent to the starter sword.

I don't know how powerful the hand-to-hand combat skill is once fully trained, though I'd imagine it could inflict some serious blunt damage, especially when combined with other skills like Aggressive Stance and so forth.

Also, it would affect the new players who are left with only their fists once they leave Haven and everytime they die.

Also, if the starter sword drops on death, it would also affect the new players who are left with only their fists once they are pk'ed.

I think the starter sword should not leave Haven. It works fine as a tool in Haven, but once you leave you shouldn't get the crutch.
Like I said before, if you used Haven right you shouldn't need the starter sword by the time you leave.

Fists are not as bad as the sword, you can't parry with fists so griefers will be much less effective.

best idea so far, i left haven after 1minute and went to bakti and griefed for 2 hours all graveyard thanks the shortsword, i was just bored.
if I had to punch the zombies for 10minutes to find a weapon..
it wouldn't have been the same.

killing people in kranesh and then getting ganked by 5 kids with shortswords.. how punishing winners. bad design, remove soulbounds. maybe give them wooden sticks with 0 slider, just for parry. ahah

Why not just make a sword that does the same damage as a fist? Then the main advantage is parry and length. If you get killed by someone swatting you 30 times, maybe its not the sword.

The point is literally that newbies get farmed by veterans/good players with a soulbound weapon that allows griefers the ability to respawn at a red priest and go right back to griefing without any inbetween recuperation period. Nobody thinks the sword is too strong or should be reduced in its potency. Just not able to be respawned with.

If its not potency, what difference would it make? I mean fists do damage don't they?
