Spears rework

Right now spears do as much damage as a two-handed sword or axe.

I suggest making base spear damage do 1/3 to 1/2 of current damage and bring back weakspot.

This will play in line whereas a spear is an effective low skill weapon with reach and weakspot.

Right now spears can out dps weapons that wound way more grisly then a spear stab.

This just seems like basic game design for SV and am perplexed.

Swords got 4 attack directions and axes 3. Spears have good damage but you just need to middle parry. Seems balanced to me

It's not about nerfing spears but changing the mechanism in which damage is done. A spear is a dagger on the end of a wood shaft. It seems bizarre to have spears doing base raw damage of an axe or greatsword but no weakspot.

Lowering the base damage but giving spears weakspot makes it work like other piercing damage in the game.

Spears, in there defense, were huge in melee for thousands of years and reigned supreme until firearms started getting fast enough to not need a pikeman (who is just a spearman who spec'd for length). Spears only do the big damage with the stab and that is easy enough to parry. There is not a severe overage of spearman running loose if it was totally OP then that is all people would use. Spear = win = no one uses anything else.

The real objective side of it is usage statistics as in how many people are being killed with spears vs other weapons. That would dictate if they are OP and need tuned down a notch. As it stands now if someone is really good they will stab you to death with a dagger and no armor.

I wouldn't mind a slightly lower damage on spears, but yeah. You just parry middle. They have their place in the game by excelling in big groups.

Weakspots are rng damage which nobody likes. And it kinda just sounds like you're not a fan of spears. Idk why they should be a "low skill weapon".

They need to start looking at the historical manual of arms. Plenty of HEMA videos that can help with future animations.

The idea behind weakspot is that the more Dex you have the higher chance for a Weakspot to work. Your idea would effectively gut any other fighter builds except for Veelas, this game doesn't need to turn into Mo1 again. Also Spears are one of the only reliable ways to hit someone from Terrain who is on horse before they can Gear into 3 or 4 in time. So your idea would make anyone without high dex deal less damage on those critical moments, and let's be honest if the person doesn't use a spear or Bow they aren't ever hitting a mounted period, no thanks. Spears also are a good weapon during team fights for sticky backing literally only reason they are used cuz they don't have enough animation cheeses to be better then Sword or Axe in a 1v1. That's the trade off Spears deal good damage because all they have is baits. So your idea is Dog water, lets nerf the damage of Spears and add a dice roll chance to make the damage be as good as it is now. Your idea is a Nerf even if you yourself don't realize it.
