Render Distance

Render distance needs to be drastically increased. I want to be able to see a pixel moving across the map. Break my computer.

For real though we need to increase the render distance. You can have an army of players 500 ft away from you and have no idea.

It's very annoying to have to get within spitting range to see someones name. Much less how they are geared...
With a MC you can poke a spear into a player before seeing the gear. Even worse for a MA.

Used to be that way in alpha, but SV reduced it massively during the course of development. I think the problem is server side not peoples computers.
agreed. when you get a lot of people in close proximity, the amount of data the server has to send grows exponentially with the number of people (i.e. there is a hard limit to how many people can be shown to everyone's client before the server dies, and is not something that can be solved simply by throwing more server hardware at the problem).

That being said, when you're in the wilderness with extremely few people/mobs nearby, it would be nice to have a longer view range. so in essence, a dynamic view range depending on the number of nearby entities, with a set minimum of perhaps what we have now and a max of maybe what we had during earlier beta or further even if you're in the jungle or somewhere there is little activity.

I think instead of 'humanoid' it should always show name/tag, and IMO the weapon should load in as well...too many times have I been pegged by an arrow when you see the naked model....

I rode past my guildmate fighting a 3v1 two times last night because the render distance is so low that I couldn't even see any of them until I was within the same range as Outburst. It's absolutely disgusting that this is considered acceptable and needs to be fixed ASAP.

Something is wrong with your settings, I have never had an issue where render distance was THAT low.

Mine is the same when riding a horse. As I get closer I see them naked on the ground then on horse and finally their name and armor appear when they are 3 horse lengths or so away from me. It for sure needs to be fixed.

Yeah more render distance would be awesome. I saying this since years. But its alos a factor of performance.
Only star vault know what the max is. And I bet that they already set it to thier max possible.

But I hope they will impove that further that you can look as far as you can in rust for example. like 500 Meter atleast

Server performance is absolutely the #1 priority for SV and this does feel like a server performance concern given it can potentially reduce the amount of per player data being requested about other players being loaded in at range. I don't see however, the problem with a small increase in data when it comes to loading in players at a distance, when all we need is a base set of information such as, Race (no customization), Armor equipped (with material type) and weapon.

We just want to know, is it worth approaching said target in the distance or do I recognise the armor/weapon/horse combination to know them. Keep the humanoid name render distance low because this actually does make sense that you shouldn't be able to know the exact name of someone across a large distance but still increase it more than 10ft none the less.

What I don't get is that they are rendering in horse armory but player armor can't be rendered?

Another thing I don't understand is how it isn't always the same. Sometimes you can see much farther than other times or maybe it is other places.

Horse armor is one peice while player armor is 5 peices plus weapons. It has to render 7-8 objects for a player model vs the 2 of the horse.

From a gameplay stand point its ok that you cant tell who someone is from a distance but in most cases you have toget up right on them to get tags. Also at distance it doesnt show armor so you cant determine who they are based off what armor or weapon they have.

Maybe have some low LODs for player moudles that is just based on their armor or weapon type. Even if they are missing a left arm peice it can just be a model of a heavyfighter with all the gear on. Or a mage with a sheild.
