Regarding our last update with the Trade Window
Greetings Mortals,
The last message on this topic was taken down earlier, as it was posted rather hastily and does not represent our official view on the subject.
Although we do allow players to engage in sly and clever behaviour, such behaviour needs to take place naturally within the game world and not rely on the abuse of broken mechanics. We do not endorse taking advantage of bugs in the game to do something you wouldn't otherwise be able to do.
As we all know, our trade window has been showing incorrect names and icons for quite some time. These issues have unfortunately led players to seek out further means of confirming whether or not the trade they are about to make is trustworthy, such as screenshots and Discord streams with the trade participant's inventories visible.
Unfortunately this is not a completely safe solution, as players can and have faked such screenshots and streams to trick others.
Although it is ultimately up to the players making the trade to decide to proceed and click accept, it is the fault of the game that the trade window does not give players the correct information that would otherwise prevent such a trade from ever being accepted.
The tricky part for us however, is that we cannot possibly reverse all such previous trades in favor of the ones who were tricked as we do not have the resources to confirm all potential cases retroactively.
We could however reverse these most recent trades, although we acknowledge this is not fair to the players who have been tricked in similar ways in the past, and we are still discussing the issue internally before we make a decision on what action to take with these particular cases.
Improving the trade window to show all the correct information is a priority for us now, and will be worked on in the sprint following the release of the next patch which is currently planned for this month.
Until then, we advise players to only make high value trades with those they trust, or to use the broker system.
