Realizing the extent of RMT is a quit moment

People always talk about losing your bank, getting relentless griefed, etc as quit moments; but there is another less spoken about one: When new players discover that the only way to be competitive is to engage in RMT. Some pull out the credit card when that happens, others tap out. If we've played the game long enough, every single one of us knows multiple people who openly buy gold instead of farming for it.

This could be resolved by getting rid of trinkets. I know this will never happen, but people who value the integrity of the game have been demanding it since the day trinkets were announced. SV claims to oppose RMT, and Robmo makes a big show of all the RMT accounts that get banned each month; but if getting rid of RMT was really the priority, SV would get rid of the things people are purchasing gold to acquire - the trinkets. Trinkets should also be removed because they ruin combat - a highly skilled non-RMTer cannot compete with a mediocre RMTer for this reason - but this is an entirely different conversation.

People also credit card swipe when they want to become spiritists, but solving this requires a much less drastic solution (add more ways to get multiverse).

SV has always had a very lax attitude towards cheaters and exploiters and now RMTers. Ever since MO1 instead of clamping down on cheaters, SV has always opted to instead try and hide problem. Always denied first and quietly tried to hide everything under the carpet.

Probably because its way easier than having to find the culprits, remove all the duped shit, and then fix the exploit so i cant be used again. Its very hard to tell if a player that farms all day long and then sends money to other people is just a hard core PVEer, or if its an RMT. There are no rules against farming all day long and giving gold to other players.
So much easier to just hide everything and pretend the problem is insignificant.

I will go as far as saying that SV has no idea how much gold was duped, cheated or RMTed. Its been going on so long that they have no idea. Now with the lottery, people that bought gold can just say they won it.its a perfect excuse.

And the economy in game has ballooned to the point where new, or even casual players, can no longer afford even the cheaper mats. Catching up to vets is almost impossible. So not only is there a huge skill barrier, there is also an insane net worth barrier now for anyone starting out.

RMT of trinkets is at the root of this too though. This game, let's be real, is pretty much dead. Any other mmorpg with 400-800 active players would be described as such. The only reason why the RMTers are in this game is because of the existence of trinkets. Everyone can obtain the high-value materials with a little bit of effort. Trinkets on the other hand are purely RNG, so people are incentivized to swipe when they see one that meets their build's needs appear on the market. Get rid of the trinkets and the RMTers will, for the most part, move to different games. Prices for materials will drop alongside declining gold stockpiles on the RMT sites.

But this all gets at the reason why I suspect SV won't get rid of trinkets and probably why they decided to implement them in the first place: If you build a game's systems in a way that strongly incentivizes RMT, you will have lots of accounts subscribed for the purpose of engaging in RMT.

I wont lie I hate and am aware of rmters exploiters ans cheaters as much as rhe other guy but they made trinkets so obtainable they cannot be an issue. You can get 18 slash 3-4 hp set for 500g right now I bet.

Once you get to what are now reroll priced rubers get your main dmg for your weapon 20 pierce for spear lets say and 18-22 hp you are 95% as good as anyone else including a guy if there is any with 500k gold trinkets. That set is 20-25k together right now, reroller price but again you can get cuprum amys with 9 9 and be solid first week into the game.

I think you underestimate what people will swipe for. There are people in this game who would easily pay hundreds of dollars to boost that 18% to 22%. Most essences are garbage, but people still pay tens of thousands of in-game gold for them (that's multiple hundreds of dollars if they are RMTing for that).

Again they get almost no combat value compared to a guy thatjust farms for a bit. If you pay hundreds of dollars to go from 18 to 22 congrats you wasted hundreds of dollars. 22s cost nothing now and 18 vs 22 is such a minor difference. So its not pay to win.

4% is huge. But let's pretend you're right and that it doesn't actually impact fight outcomes - then why have it to begin with? Just get rid of trinkets if they don't matter.

4% is not huge I didn't say it does not impact outcomes it's nor black and white. It sometimes does but mostly does not. A fight you'd win if you dealt 4% more dmg is a fight where your lets say 1v1 opponent is literal 5 hp which is not many fights. Also again 22 is also easy to get with no rmt and if you get to mid level trinkets like 20 25k gold ranfe which is farmable solo you are good to go.

Ban rmters exploiters and cheaters 100% but lets not pretend there is a huge need for rmting to play its not comparable to actual p2w games where a dude can swipe years of grind and be like 15x stronger instantly. In this game at most you will be 15% tougher than a dude that plays well and farms 1 month into the game which is 1 hit give or take.

Oh sweet summer child, you have no idea how insidious the RMT side of this game really is. It's shocking that INTERPOL hasn't shut this down yet.

That's why, for one, they should focus on capping certain things like allowing for more spirit books / more risar wep books, etc. Make other ways to get them. Nothing in this game, even Ogh now imo, should be that gated. Ogh is gated by getting sang and cron. No need to add more.

Secondly, people will buy gold in every game, and even in games where most things are equal, where weapons are just skins, people would shell out for a perfect rare skin wep. It's human nature.

Now, botting to gain gold... not OK. Mechanics that gain people gold without playing the game, not ok. All the wealth in the game MUST be created at the ground level by players. The thing is, if that stays true, then the higher the economy gets, a player who is willing to invest some time will always be able to survive / progress.

People were boosted by mastery supply runs. People got RMT trinkets. These are gains that you get forever. That is a problem.

But, there will always be RMT, even if it's subbing someone's acct. The thing is to make the game as skill based as possible, as hardcore as possible (the more intense loss you can have, the less money people will put on it lol,) and to really smooth out the progression. But yea in the end, people doing dubious shit always have an advantage, and it's just like steroids in sports or whatever... people cheat. The issue is whether or not Avg Joe can exist and be a factor, and imo, as long as he can, I think it's OK.

You’re not wrong, trinkets kinda feel like the main pressure point pushing people toward swiping. It’s less about “wanting to cheat” and more about not wanting to fall behind in a system that heavily rewards gold sinks like that. I’ve seen the same thing happen in other games where a single gear layer warps the whole economy and suddenly RMT becomes the shortcut everyone quietly accepts. Removing trinkets might be extreme, but at the very least they need to be toned down or made more accessible through actual gameplay. Otherwise SV’s basically playing whack-a-mole with RMT instead of fixing the reason it exists in the first place.
