Player Backpacks - Visualizing player inventory

It's hard to distinguish what people are up to in the game. A completely naked guy could be carrying a lot of valuable loot, but you would have no way of knowing that until you've killed them and checked their loot bag. I propose binding the mechanic of what you can carry to a backpack system.

A player can carry some loot just on their naked body, but to be effective you have to use a backpack. Backpacks could come in different sizes, and maybe even have specialized purposes. But the basics of it would be the backpack has a carrying capacity increase, that perhaps gets multiplied by your strength modifier?

The point of the system is to introduce another element into the economy, buying and selling backpacks, as well as giving a visual distinction to players looking to loot others. A player without a backpack (and no valuable armor) would not be able to carry much, thus making them a less interesting target for looting. A player with a huge backpack gives away that he is out looking for or returning with resources, and is a lucrative target for bandits.

The core for this idea is for people to be able to make educated decisions on whom they want to target. I could ofc be wrong, but I think introducing elements that help people evaluate what others have could potentially reduce the amount of RPK. Thoughts?

Thoughts?
I think a lot of silver and gold could traditionally be carried in a small bag (which hypothetically would fit in a pocket), and enough bulky weight to make my strongest character waddle slightly often turned out to be just "two boulders".

It's an interesting idea.

Don't you think most players — around for the Beta at least — already have the idea "Kill them all, let me sort through their invoentory" firmly in mind, so that visual indications of 'not carrying much' wouldn't register? Of course, thtat would not be a problem with your idea but a problem with what's been learned previously.

Ignoring everything else this wouldn't really work because people could just have a bag full of pig meat or granum. Artificially putting a bullseye on players with vaulable loot just so someone can kill them would be dumb

But what if the bag was visually on your body? And ofc, carrying capacity would be adjusted so that to carry any significant amount of stuff that is actually worth stealing, you would need something like a bag or a small backpack anyways.

Also this basically already exists with small horse bags and large horse bags

That's only for mounts, why limit it to mounts only?

Yeah many have that mentality, but I'm sure it would help some of them adapt. I don't want to do away with people's ability to do RPK if they want to (I do want consequences for it ofc, but that's another topic). This just helps more perceptive and selective players evaluate better if a target could potentially be worth the risk involved or not. More sand in the sandbox IMO.
