The combat in both games (MO1, MO2) is very ranged, you stand a couple feet away, and swing from a couple feet away. People usually maintain this distance because its easier to see what direction swings are coming from. In MO1 The only one handed weapon that worked were spears and daggers. Daggers because of the weakspots, and spears because:

I suggest the following changes
One Handed Axes
Shields
MO1 everyone had long weapons, lets make all weapons viable this time around.
SV by the way, MO 1 Community is toxic, toxic players will say anything to get the playstyle they are used. But to gain new players, we need to make new playstyles that are logical to medieval combat, which is why new players would sign up. Please read and make your own logical conclusions. Don't just listen to 100 whiny veterans to make them happy.
- they had range
- they were fast
- you could use a shield
- were fairly easy to hit with.
Most people use two handed swords, or poleswords because:
- Range, can hit from the regular combat distance (4-5 ft approx)
- Not slow, managable speed
- Easy hitbox, long blade that covers a long hitbox
I suggest the following changes
One Handed Axes
- Faster.
- Faster, parrying short swords should be hard as hell as it was in LIF
- 85% damage of two handed swords
Shields
- We need to make Shields OP, as they were in real life.
- Equipment Hit each time a shield is hit, very important. in MO1 it was equipment hit only when you werent blocking, it should be an equipment hit/parry even if you blocked the wrong direction and the shield was touched. As you still hit the shield.
- less stamina drain
- When you are blocking, arrows shouldnt hit anywhere not even legs, since u cant manipulate the shield down or up, this would be the solution. maybe a 10% chance to hit but 90% chance for the arrow to be blocked.
