Make Shields OP, Make Short Weapons Faster

The combat in both games (MO1, MO2) is very ranged, you stand a couple feet away, and swing from a couple feet away. People usually maintain this distance because its easier to see what direction swings are coming from. In MO1 The only one handed weapon that worked were spears and daggers. Daggers because of the weakspots, and spears because:

  1. they had range
  2. they were fast
  3. you could use a shield
  4. were fairly easy to hit with.

Most people use two handed swords, or poleswords because:

  1. Range, can hit from the regular combat distance (4-5 ft approx)
  2. Not slow, managable speed
  3. Easy hitbox, long blade that covers a long hitbox
A few people use short weapons because its fun, but they are really not balanced enough.

I suggest the following changes

One Handed Axes
  1. Faster.
One Handed Swords

  1. Faster, parrying short swords should be hard as hell as it was in LIF
  2. 85% damage of two handed swords

Shields

  1. We need to make Shields OP, as they were in real life.
  2. Equipment Hit each time a shield is hit, very important. in MO1 it was equipment hit only when you werent blocking, it should be an equipment hit/parry even if you blocked the wrong direction and the shield was touched. As you still hit the shield.
  3. less stamina drain
  4. When you are blocking, arrows shouldnt hit anywhere not even legs, since u cant manipulate the shield down or up, this would be the solution. maybe a 10% chance to hit but 90% chance for the arrow to be blocked.

MO1 everyone had long weapons, lets make all weapons viable this time around.

SV by the way, MO 1 Community is toxic, toxic players will say anything to get the playstyle they are used. But to gain new players, we need to make new playstyles that are logical to medieval combat, which is why new players would sign up. Please read and make your own logical conclusions. Don't just listen to 100 whiny veterans to make them happy.

One thing to mention about shields that is in my opinion really stupid :
Equipment his are calculated based torso defense + shield defense.
So in order to use equiment hits effectively you basically need a heavy torso, and not some light weight armor build. :(
So 300-style builds don't work.

In my opinion, Shields and One handed weapons were great in LIF. It was cancer to fight someone using a tower shield and a one handed sword using a two handed sword, but thats how it should be, in MO, its a walk in the park if you are using a two handed sword and the other person is using a shield, the shield is basically an illusion.

Shields are already OP. I love my shield and half the time I've been using them I was using a sub-optimal recipe. Swords are underpowered though. I fully agree, buff every 1h weapon except spears and daggers to be more competitive with spears and daggers.

Tested a hybrid build with sword a shield.
Summary:
- Shield bash is stong when fighting on rooftops (e.g. GK).
- Shield on the back is nice for hybrid when casting
- Left slashes with 1h weapons are basically useless (super low range).

Shields are op and i hope they get nerfed, so that you will do at least 10 Damage through an equipment hit.

I used in the video a full steel shield. And most of the equipment hits where somewhere between 8 and 12.
But I weared only a platescale torso. With a steel torso the equipment damage would be lower...

Use a different weapon. Someone hit me for 30 on an Equipment hit on my shield yesterday.
Which shield and which torso did you use?
There are huge difference and not all shields are the same.
But yes, in general blunt weapons do good equiment hits.

It's pretty much just use a maul if you want to break shields. They have their place in team fights if used carefully.

i think shields are in a very good spot and the shield bash makes the shield + 1H sword -maul -spear combo for some character builds the best combo.
