I would like to see this focus on lore in a way and racial and cultural heritage.
Some examples:
Food preferences
- Each clade has nutritional and dietary preferences they have evolved into; Thursars prefer a diet of raw meat, Alvarin are more plant based, Oghmir and ichor dependence but humans have a broader and more typical diet. These foods could keep you in better form (faster recovery) or just make it the most efficient way to manage hunger and weight.
- Perhaps different ingredients would have different effects on different races more broadly including alchemy where one races poison is another races elixir.
These small changes would make the food/alchemy market way more interesting and dynamic rather than everyone having the same superfood without fundamentally advantaging or disadvantaging anyone competitively.
Skill affinity
- Increase the rate at which some races learn some skills based on lore - useful in the short term and also when re-skilling but also not allowing a greater maximum potential versus others
Traits with more gameplay-impact
- Having environmental buffs-debuffs - Humans prefer large cities, veela prefer small tribes and jungles, huergar and sheevra like to be in caves/darkness and isolated, blainn and kallards like the cold
- Vision differences - color saturation changes, improved night vision, worse day vision etc If this is too hardcore maybe make the effects of looking at lights more intense and long lasting for races that prefer dark, but have them adjust to darkness much more effectively
- Racial regional reputation impacting npc prices
- Huergar are harder to knock down but less agile
- Alvarin are easier to knock down but more agile
- Thursar get blood lust in battle which gives them a temporary damage resistance or power boost when health is under a certain percent
- Khurites can learn mounted archery as a secondary
- insert cool racial talent that alters the game beyond attributes and skills
These are just a few ideas but it would be good to get devs thinking about this as an avenue to do some substantial things; If it just turns into +5int, +5 str +10 to skill cap, all of these things can just be added directly to those pools for the player to choose based on their character caps and pools and not have an entirely new system around that doesnt bring anything new to the table other than a new interface
If clade gifts dont exist to make each clade feel different, then they should not exist.
Of course we only have a single clade so maybe humans are supposed to be bland and boring but we shall see
