Definitely don't be afraid to lean into the verticality! One thing that made Kranesh a fun place for fighting and thieving was all of the directions an attack could come from and the potential for kiting people around the geometry. The trees and hill in the original do a good job of obscuring the approach to the town, making it both believably outlawish, and easy to slip in and out of for ambushes and escapes.
