After this patch horses stats are noticably different. I first noticed how 2nd gear was taking stam only to realize it was actually 3rd. 2nd was too slow for me to realize.
I so far have tried steppe and Jotuns. Steppes are far better and really nice to ride.

You can run faster then a Jotun with molarium on at less then 380 ms, steel is pretty much unusable. with how slow.
I havent compared steel on Steppe yet but with molarium it is at least above 420 MS in 2nd gait, and then about 100 more MS for the next gate then Jotun, and 4th is about 200 more MS. Along with far less stam drain.
When in 4th gait gallop the jotun only tavels for a couple of seconds before it slows back down to 3rd despite still having stamina.

I rather walk then ride a Jotun which is the issue here. Running is faster for my MA then riding in 2nd gear. I just run with weapon out and then hope on to ride in 3rd gear untill I switched it out for a steppe. A steppe in molarium was better then a naked Jotun.

Im not going to be riding Jotuns anymore, but SV should increase the speed of 1st and 2nd gear for QoL. The traveling speed thats not applicable to combat is just so slow that its painfull to ride. The 300 extra stam doesnt mean much when its spends most of that trying to stay in 3rd gear just to have acceptable travel speed. The 315 max health still doesnt make up for the negatives.

The speeds I've heard and experienced myself, in 2nd gear is:
Jungle - 470
Steppe - 500
Desert - 550

We know the only stats in-game for horses at the moment are health, stam and most recently speed was added. We know bag carry weight has not yet been added and this was a key stat in MO1. An example of this was every miner using Donkies due to their carry weight. It may well be that the slower horses like Jungles and Jotuns have a higher bag carry weight. Horse bag carry weight is compared between horses based on kg capacity or rock capacity - or for very experienced MO players, boulder carrying capacity. The current horse bag carry weight capacity is 600kg (6 stacks) less weight of the armour and bags being used on the monut.

The only consideration was the update from Henrik in his latest stream which indicated the player weight willl influence the mount speed. The example he used was a heavy player riding a wolf would go slower than a lighter player on the same wolf. So there is further potential that the strength and carry weight of the horse (based possibly on breed) may be a critical factor soon.

In summary, I think before the balancing between the breeds is done, we might need to wait until all of the horse characteristics and stats are in game.

More importantly... bring back donkies

If speed is now a consideration between breeds, and your horse armor class reduces speed, wouldn't the appropriate train of thought be that Jotuns are more suitable for lighter armor, especially considering their higher stamina pools. I don't think we will ever see high stamina pools + high top speed in any scenario when it comes to horse balance, not at least until breeding is implemented.

A armored Desert/steppe/mongol is faster with less stam use and faster with heavier armor then a unarmored jotun.
Most of those horses only have 35 less HP. Jotun as no point, I wouldn't even ride it naked except naked in third to another horse spawn.

Each horse has its uses. Juton horses are draft horses. Big and slow with lots of hp. They should be a pack/transport horse or war horse for a very tanky( but slower) MC build. No horse has it all, and you need to pick your horse for the task at hand. Working as intended.

Jotun has no use. Every horse carries the same weight but goes faster with heavy armor compared to a naked jotun. Along with better stam regain. Jungles horse is also scuffed right now.

Yes for now, but eventually horse strength will determine how much bag weight they can carry (just like in mo1) and then jutons will be good for something.
also they arent useless, they are still better than walking, they just aren't the best for pvp. Then again, they never were.

Please elaborate on what is the point of mounted combat in a horse that (almost) moves slower than foot fighters. Doesn't matter the little extra HP they have, they just get kitted and I wouldn't be doing any transport on them if running is not an option. Steppes being the 2nd best horse in game when they are the most common makes no sense.

Jotuns being supposedly harder to get with just 2 small spawns in a corner of the map and then being trash makes no sense, not now and not in the future when you can get a donkey to carry more.
