Hi!

I think it's important to first establish that no, I'm not going to ask for the removal of full loot PvP.
But yeah, I learned about this game recently and definitely caught my eye (funny enough, from a video bashing it for having full loot PvP). So I've been reading about it and asking questions around (you might have seen me asking some in the Steam forum).
Here is the thing, I'm interested in what this game is advertised to be: a hardcore sandbox MMORPG. It has full loot PvP and that's fine, reading about the game I already know it's designed around it so the main concern about gear is gone, even love it because it makes what I want to do, crafting weapons/armor, much better.

My other concern is the game devolving into some sort of "Fantasy Call of Duty" because as I've been reading around here and Steam forums I've seen some referring to it simply as a "harcore full loot PvP game" which is not the same. The former just means it's a feature in the game, the latter means it's the whole point of the game. Complaining because the developers have made more difficult to basically kill your...countrymen? ...citymen? (other players from your same "home base")... in big lawful cities... in a game supposed to be about holding territory and defending it together against others. It's fine if you want to play as a thug but why would you expect it being so easy everywhere? This is no GTA. (AFAIK)

So, since I never experienced MO1 and I suppose a big part of the community are people coming from MO1, I was hoping to get some feedback about that here. I'm no fan of subscription model, but this game is so unique I'd give it the chance if it won't become just a fantasy GTA.

I under stand your concern, and I do not think it is wise choice of words to think of it becoming a GTA type of game. Because People who may attack you are also risking their gear, Also their Items if they are transporting stuff. GTA Is a no risk game. Having playing both games I can honestly say I do not attack ppl like I do on GTA, Nor do people attack me. Ive traveled from Meduli to Bakti and saw 1 group of 2ppl, and 1 group 3 people. We just looked at each other and continued. There is a constant risk in this game unlike GTA and people play completely differently.

The developer recently addressed this in a pretty recent stream.

I attempted to cover it here though volume is a bit low:
I watched your video a couple of days ago! Or at least tried, at the time I couldn't crank the volume up too much, but I did get the gist of it and it's one of the reasons I know just full pvp it's not the developers vision for this game. Just watched it again and yeah, if it's going to be that way I'm onboard.

Ah, yeah, I'm not saying that's the state of the game, but if the majority of people were playing with the mentality of killing others all the time just because they can it would be closer to GTA. Still, glad to know it doesn't seem to be that way.

There is a very vocal part of the community that only enjoys the PvP aspect of the game and spends a lot of time criticizing all the other systems that prevent them from playing "Mordhau with territory control" (e.g. reserve/food system, gathering, hunting, etc). But there is also a big part of the community which may be less vocal that does enjoy those parts and the fact that it is a full loot game where you can lose your stuff is just an addon of adrenaline when you are done with your "non-pvp" activity and heading back home with fat loot in your pocket.

So you can play the game however you want - I played MO1 for years and was never on a "PvP guild" and intend to do the same this time around. You will lose stuff, you will get over it and you will continue until it isn't fun anymore which can be a long time depending on what activities you find fun.

There's nothing wrong will full loot. You wanna wear tryhard stuff w/ out being able to hold it, then you get teased like THX FOR GEAR. Don't waste your time building epic gearz (which honestly money and time wise doesn't take THAT long to bang out whatever) because you could lose it right outside of the guard zone. You watch someone die and how fast people loot them, no matter what it is happening, it's amazing. THE SPEED. COCKROACHES.

People get killed a lot, but due to the power structure, it tends to be drama. If you join a group or bring in a group, you will get more respect. In this game, a small group can get a lot done. I played other MMOs and ran smallish guilds 10-15 active people in this game is muah af. There are larger groups that will come and go but if your core stays you will always be relevant.

Full loot pvp is actually a very natural idea. A lot of the ideas in MO2 have gone to soften a lot of the most complained about issues of 1, but it is buggy. Don't quit cuz the bugs... at least not til you decide if you like the game. Dying to bugs is sad and I def would be ready to submit tickets. I don't cuz... it's beta and who cares, but... it's an option. Gotta stay logged in tho afaik.

It's not 'just a game' like stuff people say online is often not 'just words', some people are playing with ANGER IN THEIR HEARTS :*( I would say most aren't, and on the level of primal competition, this is pretty good... excepting balance, but 1. BALANCE IS HARD 2. EXISTENCE/ATTRITION is the real way to play. I feel like getting those urges out is healthy and why we do sports and such, but yea there are fewer limits and some people want to use them to try to mess with you. If you ever spent any time online before now, you should know how it is.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with full loot, like I said, I don't mind that part, It's just different to say "it has full loot pvp" than "it is full loot pvp". The former is just an option, the latter is the whole point of the game. The former has "rules" (those from the in-game laws and the ones created by the players over time in some sort of tacit agreement), the latter is "you existing" is the only reason for killing you and I'm not interested in that kind of game, at least not as an MMORPG.

For example, what you mention about people killing you for having epic gear all the time is what I'd consider a "tacit rule", and that's part of the learning curve of the game. Personally I even identify with that, I'm originally from a place it's very bad idea having your phone out in public while it's perfectly normal in most places. It's not ideal but it is what it is, I learned from a very young age there are things you can't do or you risk getting robbed or worse. On the other hand, the one robbing is also bound to the consequences from his actions (getting caught, jail, etc). But the "hardcore full loot pvp" I've seen some people want (and again, not the vision for the game afaik) is one without such rules. I'm naked minding my own business in my home town? Doesn't matter, you exist, I kill you, I'm celebrated for doing so. A handful of people doing that is just an inconvenience... a lot of people doing that? Nobody would get anything done.

And well, to those playing with anger I'd say just go an vent it playing DOOM or something instead of making other people's lives miserable.

"...1, but it is buggy. Don't quit cuz the bugs... at least not til you decide if you like the game. Dying to bugs is sad and I def would be ready to submit tickets. I don't cuz... it's beta and who cares, but... it's an option"... Isn't that like... THE whole point of a Beta? 😅

Yes, I've seen those complaints and that's part of my concern, just how much the devs take those into consideration. The rest you mention is pretty much how I feel the devs wants it to be and why I'm very interested in it, so it's also nice to know it has been possible to play like that since MO1. (y)

A padded room.
It sounds like the game would fit you well.

One really only has to accept that the world can be a violent/dangerous place.

How they try and live in such a world is the choice.
