In lieu of a proper respec system just reset all clades as a one time offer of good will

It will probably be months or more before the talked of respec system is in game. Just reset the clades of all active characters since many of us didn't spend a lot (or any) time in beta and made some poor choices in clades.

I would prefer that those who want to respec to contact a GM on a case by case basis, there are those who do not want to have their clades arbitrarily reset as it would break their build and cause unforeseen problems.

Like what sort of problem would occur?

That would likely be a nightmare for their support staff.

For those who may have to log in in the wild, especially if hostile mobs are nearby when they do, they may lose their mount and pet due to having to put their clade gifts back together. Instead of being able to ride away or take defensive action.

Or they are overweight due to reduced attribute and skills, and the mount refuses to let them on, or throws them off when they get on. Again, if they are doing this in the wild with hostile mobs nearby, it can mean total loss.

Assuming that every player is aware of the clade reset when it happens, it can cause unexpected chaos and unnecessary unhappiness for those who weren't aware. Especially given how SV doesn't communicate very well at times.

A crafter could be logging in at the workbench, they assume that nothing has changed and they start crafting. Their crafted goods are suddenly lesser quality and they waste valuable mats. They could be doing this for quite some time before they realise that anything was wrong.

Best is if SV simply inserts a reset button so those of us who want a reset can do so without disrupting everyone server-wide.

Those are situational to the extreme. And even then, death in MO is very normal.

By your latter argument, SV should just never change any mechanic as there might be a few players that never read the new updates and might overlook a change that drastically changes their game.

A mere update info is surely enough, like they normally do, stating that upon login your glades will have reset and you need to redistribute them. If a person doesn't read the convenient update notes, it is their own fault.

EDIT: Your last suggestion is better though, but if it is harder for the Devs to impliment on a programing level, then I would say just go with the automatic reset.

Hey guys, guess what. We HAD a reset button in beta. And then they removed it.

Why? Because its Star Vault. The same people who, in the beta, removed the ability to ride on a horse overweight before adding horse bags into the game. The same people who removed 90% of red priests without adding TC priests to the game.

Removing the clade reset button was so damn stupid. I'm can guarantee you if they added a reset button tomorrow 99% of players would change their clade up.

They wanted it to be a gold sink? Cool thats fine. But they should have created that system in beta. Having a free one doesn't create a gold sink, but neither does not even having the mechanic in the game to respec. So why not just leave it in for now?

Tldr: they had the button to respec in beta but removed it before implementing the gold sink. The button existed. So they can simply re-add it. Should be minimal effort. Classic SV move.

Ah yes, good point. It shouldn't take much reprogramming.
