Hello all,
I just recently bought into the beta for this game and I am in love with the graphics and atmosphere of the game. However, I never really played MO1, so I just wanted to ask some things.

I am currently running a low end cpu Ryzen 3200g with a midrange gpu Radeon 5500xt. I get a good 30-40 fps on medium settings and it is playable. Do you think it would make enough difference to justify buying a Ryzen 3700 cpu for $260?

Also, I was wondering about the pvp and briefing. I know this is a hardcore full loot pvp game. But certainly that isn't going to be the whole game. Could people play the game and just do PVE if they wish, or is the pvp forced on you? How does the game ensure that it is playable for new players and people who don't want to pvp? In other games, players often find tricks to one shot other players or something and take their stuff and there isn't much gamesmanship to it. I hope this game doesn't turn into that.

You can definitely play the game without focusing on pvp, but just be prepared to live with it everywhere you go.

While the game does not prevent pvp from happening, it instead discourages indiscriminate pking of players through murder counts which can eventually turn the pker into a red (murderer).

Too many murdercounts will make it nearly impossible to enter guarded towns, and since there is only one character per account, eventually every player on the server will know about the pker.

It will essentially become like living as an outlaw or fugitive for the pker, and player bounty hunters will be paid by others to hunt them down.

Pvp will be forced on you. You have to expect it. This is a pvp focused game and 95% of players are always looking to pvp. There are also, unfortunately, a sizable portion of the community that love to pick fights with “carebear” (pve) players.

you certainly can play this game and focus only on pve, but you have to accept that pvp will be brought to you from time to time.

the way the game works there is no area that is completely safe from pvp. Even in towns there are ways to attack/kill players.

A padded room.
PVP is a large part of the game for sure but there is a larger percentage of players that are not about pvp than many would believe. Though they are clearly the minority by a large margin.

That said it is really not as much of an issue to play that way as you may first expect. Gear in the game is relatively easy to get and replace. Its not like other games where high level gear is extremely rare and what actually makes a player powerful. Sure better gear helps but in the end it is more about the players skill than the gear.

So basically you should only go out with what you can afford to lose. In the beginning that will not be much but, over time what you can afford to lose will become greater and greater.

The intention of the game is as much as possible to create an immersive medieval fantasy world experience. Violence is part of that, or at least the threat of it.

If you get in a good guild that is mostly focused on PvE-focused/peaceable and go out with them exclusively, you could mitigate a lot of your risk, as well as make it easier to recoup your gear if you do end up dying.

Most of the "ganking" will be among individuals who fancy themselves bandits etc in the wild, but they'll always be looking for an easy fight (an individual by themselves), or guild warfare between guilds that are in conflict.

The initial learning island Haven is basically safe, but it's for learning.

Danger is a part of the game, but I firmly disagree with others who believe the game should be a PvP battleground only. It's been clearly said by the Founder that the intention is to support the major game play styles of PvE, crafting, PvP, exploration, roleplaying etc. But it's an open sandbox, if you choose one of those to focus on, you'll likely run into the others from time to time, but can definitely tailor your play so you minimize contact with types of gameplay you don't like.

This game being an uninstanced, open world, multiplayer game means it is CPU bound. This is largely due to processing network related data to your screen which is a function of your CPU. As such, any core/clock upgrade should net you an FPS boost assuming the GPU isn't also bottlenecking. Your 5500xt should be okay though but make sure you're dropping your texture/foliage quality as on fairly high settings, this game can use around 10gb+ VRAM - at least on my setup. As far as I know that card only has 4gb of vram?

Im not familiar with Ryzen but it sounds like you are comparable to my mid range pc. If you know about (GTX970/Ancient I-5) conversions to nvidia/intel then please let me know and I can help you further. But you should upgrade, because you should be getting more FPS than that.

By 30 to 40 FPS you mean that you could get 120 starring at a wall right?

If you feel like you can not maintain 60 FPS: in forests with no one around, casually walking around Meduli (MEDULI SEEMS TO BE VERY EASY ON THE FPS FOR SOME REASON EVEN THOUGH IT HAS A LARGE OPEN AREA TO LOOK AT) or Fabernum, pretty much anywhere that you can only see a few hundred meters ahead. In those cases, If you can not maintain a solid 60 FPS if you really wanted to, then you will want to upgrade.

If you want to PVP, you have no choice but to upgrade.
P.S.THE PVE IS VERY FUN

Edit: With todays hardware, pretty much anything can run@60fps solid for a 1v1 fight in a well covered forest in MO2. If you cant do that, theres a problem.
For MO2, its all about how far you are seeing.

You would gain a marked FPS improvement with that CPU upgrade. The 3200g is pretty slow compared to a 3700x.

Until we get FSR, anything Nvidia will currently give you better frames using DLSS and will allow for the cheapest rig while getting good performance. If SV is completely locked into DLSS with nvidia now or have the ability to use FSR I do not know. So better bet on Nvidia locked until we hear from Henrik or Seb.
