I get why it was done at launch, people were making money too fast by having a geared character in haven farm gold to people who just left, traded to gold to someone on mainland and re-rolled, but now that the in game economy is more mature, there are so many ways on mainland to make gold per hour that far exceeds what you can do in haven.
A new player leaving with 100 gold and a bank full of quality leather armor and cuprum short swords is barely even an advantage. You can easily make around 100 gold per hour with mining, and about 1hour of calx mining would probably yield enough cuprum to as many swords as you want. The gold and item limit just needlessly nerfs new players.
