I would like to thank, once again. The developers of our coveted, precious, "PvP mmorpg"... Which is actually just an extremely bloated survival craft like Ark or Conan with Ultima Onlines complete design process horribly applied to it. Who have undoubtedly, unfailingly, redundantly and predictably not dropped the ball. YOU threw it over the fence, off the cliff and into a volcano. Anyone with common sense and game design knowledge was scratching their head when they decided to "launch" to ONE server. Multiple servers waiting and ready? A plan in case it went horribly wrong? Nope. You should have launched with 3 + worlds. PvE server, a Mixed PvP server and a Full PvP server. Nobody wants to play on a full loot all pvp server when the game is completely broken and exploitable, not enough consequences for it. There should have been at least 10 of these ready to go. You don't realize that if you thought about it than there could have been over 300,000 copies sold and +100k player base. You are pandering to a long dead and boring idea. Sandbox mmorpg veterans have been wanting NEW launches and NEW servers, seasons. One server that lasts a long time is boring. This has been known in the mmorpg community since 2005 when we started having a lot of fun with various seasons and game formats in Shadowbane.
And the other factor that never fails to fail, the good old sandbox mmorpg community, about 1-5%. Out there, doing their best to exploit, cheat, dupe, grief and chase as many players away from the game as possible within the first month. While the game is even unplayable for most. While the servers were completely lagged I went around to a couple streams and overheard veteran players saying. "SInce the guards are lagged, we should go around killing everyone's pets in town". Then they did exactly that, many players are going around when the game is buggy and new just spoiling the game for themselves and everyone. THIS is why we will never have nice things. It's a complete embarrassment to yourself if you do this and our genres community.
Then I go to other streamers page and they are being helpful to the community, bringing in players to the genre. What do people do? They go around stream sniping and showing exactly why people will never touch this game. All of this because developers are not caring of players time and people are still allowed to be absolute trash cans in a video game.
These are the exact same problems that destroyed almost every sandbox mmorpg we have had. I would think we could start learning from 20+ year old mistakes and maybe applied some new theory or methods.
Easy fixes:
Developers: You need to be honest with your player base. The servers cannot handle enough people for it to be called an "mmorpg". This game is NOT an mmorpg and it is also not launched. The game is in Early Alpha at best. This is a server based survival craft rpg with Ultima System. EVE Online is a sandbox mmorpg. That right there is a pretty questionable reach and false marketing term. Put up multiple servers with rulesets so that the people who bought your game can actually enjoy it. You have to RELAUNCH the game or release new servers, NEW wipe. That current server is forever broken and you will be hard to find players that want to play on it. Currently it has been inhabited by the same exact people who dedicate their entire life to this game. Some grief, they exploit, dupe and have nothing better to do than sit in q or leave their pc on 24/7. That's who you enabled as your player base. Let that sink in please and think about the repercussions of that. You need to relaunch the game on new servers with options of pvp, pve rulesets. There are more than enough players that want to fill them all, if the game works. I for one would enjoy the fact that anyone could enjoy the game.
Players and community: I know that we fight, we have battles, wars... it's the fun of the game. But, please stop doing things to spoil new players time with confusing bugs or exploiting mechanics. And, just being totally creepy and horrible. PvP is not being creepy and horrible, that's just being a terrible person. Sure, KOSing people and normal, motivated PvP, RPK. But, do not go out intentionally seeking to find newbs and screw up their game enjoyment when they don't even know what it is yet. We want people to enjoy the game. The developer of the game has made many mistakes. It is our responsibility to not make those mistakes worse, damage control.
I've seen this all with many games before. This is a bad state at the moment but so simple to fix the situation.
