"In Nyström's initial statement, he communicated that their long-term goal was about 300,000 monthly players"

You're not able to have even 1% of that on your fucking server. If you had 300k players in a month, the majority of them would get 0,144 minutes of playtime on Myrland DURING THE WHOLE MONTH. No worries, they would probably enjoy the queue simulator for 12 hours before their roughly 6 seconds of glory.

Expect to see copycats and imitators springing up everywhere in the coming two or three years as they always do when an innovative game experiences runaway success.

Despite the current server queue issues, in my opinion SV has earned it and their years of hard work are now paying off in spades. And this is them going against the grain and long-held popular opinions in the incredibly stale and uninspired video game industry.

We may even see the official Ultima Online flip-flop back to its pre-Renaissance era pvp mechanics.

Lol... i hate to tell you this... but MO has not only been around for a long time now... but was a copy-cat of UO and Darkfall... and AO exists and is much much more successful... so its more like they copied them but ok

Except MO has distinct features that are not found in UO, Darkfall or AO, either in whole or in part. First person only, no fast travel, local banking, body location specific damage, no tab targeting, and classless character development. To name a few. While MO may share some slight similarities with these other games, it is in a class of its own.

not sure if you played Darkfall but that was also first person, local banking, no tab targeting, classless character development, etc. To pretend like MO invented the PvP MMORPG genre is fairly absurd considering the CEO has so much as admitted he made this game due to his love for Ultima Online. Obviously not a direct clone, but heavily, inspired by it

Yes I did play Darkfall Online for about 6 months back in 2009. Darkfall actually has both third-person and first-person view so not in the same league as MO. As far as I can remember, it did not have body location specific damage, nor did it have local banking.

Also, Darkfall has been dead and buried for many years now and UO and AO have both been in maintenance mode for many years as well. It is common knowledge that MO1 and MO2 were inspired by Ultima Online, no one is disputing that.

For all intents and purposes, the video game industry has been very stale and most mmorpgs that have come out in the last decade or so have largely been stuff that has been overdone in a saturated market. MO2's runaway success is doing what Ultima Online did back in 1997 when it released and took the world by storm.

Thats not an actual quote. For some reason journalists work like this these days. They make up a quote to put in their article and then they reference to it. In this case they literally link to themselves and there is nowhere I can find the origin of this quote.

I'm pretty sure Henrik and the team were aiming for 5k players, not 300k. That is the only number I can find on the other hand.

hey, if they oversold and a bunch of us want refunds, then it sounds like the perfect solution! We can help you guys lighten your load. Just open up a page for refund requests and we will help you guys shrink a lot of the excess. Promise.

It was stated as a long term goal which implies more continents so technically not "one server" when it comes to load issues. Still one world, one story which is the goal.
