If shields come before we get a counter to block and say, they make it so you don't have to match block direction, just timing. or even worse, it can be held indefinitely. Then 360 blocking would be a very big problem, blocking in general would be a "problem" anyway
What do you mean man? That will make blocking relevant again compared to MO where you were encouraged not to block and just use high ping and strafe around to juke people. 360 blocking with shields will just make this game balanced. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

I heard it was actually tab targetting we're gonna get instead, but close.

With the introduction of shields might be a perfect time to add more depth to how combat plays out though.
Doing it at some points after shields are added instead, would probably not be the best choice. Sure, it'll work to test the shields out in whatever way they do want to put them in, but it could possibly be just achieving that and nothing else.

Wonder what the closest patch that does something to combat will bring though.

Block arc, jumping gravity change, and faster swings according to big H himself.
edit: and spears and shield if that wasn;t already obvious

faster swings as in faster travel of the swings or faster as in faster charging them up?

Interested to test that stuff out, would be nice to have them talk more about longer term plans for combat.

Yeah the equipment hits are already pretty excessive, so i'm not optimistic.
Yes currently equipment hits do a bit more damage than it should. But should we slow down progress on the rest of combat and the game to fix these minor issues, or to push on? The 360 block in place balances out the excessive damage dealt by handle hits. Even if you aren't optimistic as long as we are patient and don't derail Henrik into fixing these combat issues, the new content he releases will not disappoint.

Combat is in a weird place with the lack of sledgehammer mounteds. Currently people have the ability to reposition themselves without taking massive amounts of damage. If they wanna live in 3 shots they should be wearing oghmium at the least, mobility should be exclusively for mounted as thats their primary advantage.

This may be a little too early to be implemented but in order to reduce the mobility of footfighting there should be a penalty to movement speed based on armor weight. Things like khurite splinted armor should reduce movement speed by 30% while full plate oghmium should be somewhere around 50-70%. This should create the perfect dynamic where if you want the mobility mounteds have, you need to be near naked and therefore be able to be one-shotted by conventional weapons. If you don't want to be one shotted you need to wear the heavy plate armors up to oghmium which would slow you down significantly as it was in medieval times. And with this heavy armor, you would then need to rely on blocking to survive rather than just avoiding combat/taking massive hits by just running/squirreling away.

If this movement system is to be in place then bbihahs 360 degree blocking solution should be made permenant in order to balance the footfighting blocking dynamic

You think if a simple solution like that would've worked by now someone would have already brought it up. And if Sebastian hasn't implemented it yet then there would obviously be drawbacks associated that Henrik does not want.
True. I expect once SV hits the first 100k players having multiple servers on each continent will just make sense anyway. I mean who could deal with 10k people all walking around one Tindrem. ?
