I must say that I am quite disappointed. I have bowing almost to a hundred. and the small bow makes hardly any damage. So I assume that the composie or the longbow do not do much more damage?

what do you mean? oh so it depends on the materials you need to build the bow?
the quality of the bow also depends what is your lore skill of materials that are you using for craft. Like Dense crepite lore, spongewood lore...
Generaly uwant recurve bows for PvP and decurve for PvE (Recurve are more dmg decurve more dura)
Shortbows have faster rate of fire and less stam drain but lower dmg per shot
Longbows have high dmg but only useable on foot
Asymmetric is best bow for mounted archery it seems are pretty good on foot (Long bow do a bit more though i think the longbow arrows have a dmg modifier with longbows)
Single material bows have higher base dmg than composite but less customisable downside is there doesnt seem to be a single material that hits theideal str value you tend to want 100-120 mark it either much lower or to high which intern makes composite better choice normally however there miught be some good single material short bow options i havant check that one yet.
Steel armor however from my understanding makes bows do literally no dmg however i believe thats quite a high end metal armor set however if you can kite them you will eventually kill them if you dont run out of arrows first lol
