Think about it. What else have they done properly? And i do mean properly.
The magic? It's hitscan, This means that magic is not a projectile, there is no "Fireball" physical object in the world, you hover your mouse over your target and he takes damage. This is, by game design terms, an extremely simple system, Im by no means saying it is a bad system (But it is), thats not the argument I am making, I am simply saying it is by no means innovative or complicated.
The Housing system? Have you played Archeage? It's the exact same system. In Archeage you buy a predefined house, you place it down somewhere, and you add resources and build it. You then furnish it inside however you see fit, with simple furnish objects, crafting stations, chests etc... Archeage came out in 2013. You want to know the main difference between Archeage and Mortal Online 2 in the housing department? You don't fall through the floor of an archeage house. You don't crash upon opening a chest. You don't see your friends floating above your head. Your pet does not get stuck in your house.
The crafting system? While it is definitely a little bit well defined in terms of number of combinations you can craft, It's a one click crafting system. A lot of games have a one click crafting system. Most games actually. I'll tell you one game that does not. Wurm Online, an obscure MMO from 2006, in which after crafting a weapon you need to improve it, temper it, polish it, sharpen it untill it becomes good enough for use. Ill tell you another, Metin 2 from 2004, you found a sword, you could take it to the blacksmith in town for improvement, advanced improvement required special materials found in the wild. Lemme tell you another, let's go back to Archeage, there were dozens of levels of an equipment piece yoou could go through. So let's not kid ourselves into thinking MO2 crafting is indepth.
The territory control? (That is not in the game yet and is yet to be announced a date)
Have you played Gloria Victis? It's a game specialized in territory control, and has a similar gameplay to Mortal Online 2. Try it, its cheap. And does not have a subscription.
The horse riding system? You mean the one in which its almost impossible to use anything but a lance in melee and upon going up a sliiightly steep hill your horse takes a right turn by itself and you have to compensate by steering left repeatedly over and over again?
The quest system? There is but one single quest in the game in the form of running a letter (Parcel) from one town to another. Have you played Old School Runescape? It's a game from 2000 that still holds up to this day with more than 50.000 players online every single day. You know how it does it? It has the best quests in any MMO ever created by mankind. They are funny, long, but not long enough to bore you, have lore, take you on literal adventures, and give you sufficient rewards at the end.
Let's go back to the duel system idea in the title.
Why did I say Mortal Online 2 is only but a duel system?
Because, well, while it may have a lot of other systems, none of them stand out, most of them are buggy, and they all have been done better before. I'm sorry to say this, but this is an objective truth. The only thing that will keep this game alive is an instanced 1v1 ranked arena. Because thats the only thing it excels at.
