Greeting Mortals!
Today we are releasing the much-anticipated Reckoning expansion, we are proud of the work we have been doing behind the scenes since April of last year. As we like to do here at Star Vault sometimes, we spring surprises on our players who are our greatest fans.
Without further ado, let's dive in and see what the expansion has in store for you!
Haven integration with Myrland:
After much consideration, we have decided that the best way to maintain our seamless, one world philosophy is to allow players on Haven and Myrland to freely travel between the two landmasses. This will allow veterans to interact with the newcomers, and bring the two communities together.
- We also want our new players to enjoy what Mortal Online 2 is, a truly hardcore full PvP, full looting experience. As a result, we have decided to change Haven to have the same rules as Myrland.
- While we understand that this may be concerning to some newcomers who feel that they may be ganked as soon as they "step out of the town gates", we have added plenty of guard towers so that any player-killer will be punished.
- All new and existing players on Haven will now have a countdown timer on their UI showing them how long they have before they lose their new player protections. Once this timer reaches zero, they will be risk of being attacked or stolen from by other players, and may also attack and steal from others.
Which brings us to the next long-awaited feature...
THIEVERY!
The new thievery skill has been completely overhauled from MO1, and is now much more specialised and hard to obtain.
- Thievery parent skill is a primary school that you unlock by first practising it on the thievery tutor. To do this, you must buy a thievery toolkit from the thievery tutor who is in a hidden location in every town. The toolkit costs 10 gold.
- To practice thievery, you right-click on the toolkit which will open a bag with two items inside: A lockpick, and a random mask.
- The lockpick will be used to see how good of natural thief you are, having very high dexterity and intelligence will be vital to succeed. For every 10 points in dexterity and intelligence, your chance of success increases by 0.1 percent. Base chance is 0 percent for all clades, except for Alvarins who have 99 percent starting base chance.
- On right-clicking the lockpick, a 10-second timer will starting counting down. If you are successful, the thievery tutor will grant you the Thievery skill book. If not, the tutor will take away your toolkit and you will have to buy it from him again.
As you can see, thievery is a very hard skill to acquire, and this is by design. Like the tower shield, we do not want every clade and build running around with one.
- If you are successful, you will then need to right-click on the random mask in the toolkit. This is a mask that will make your character's face look like one of the staff at Star Vault that we have created using the game's character creator. Right now, there is only Henrik Nystrom or Sebastian Persson, but more faces may come in future patches.
- Again, if your character is from the Alvarin clade, putting on the mask and then interacting with the thievery tutor will grant you two additional primary skills free of charge: Snooping, and Pilfering. If you are not Alvarin, the thievery tutor will not be impressed, and will not only take away your toolkit, but the thievery skill you just learned will be locked and you must start the process all over again.
Fixes:
- We have seen how bizarre MO2's ragdoll physics can be when a player dies in town, and we have decided to increase the length and extent of the ragdoll movement. This can be disabled in the Settings if you feel uncomfortable, however doing so will still make the ragdoll move around as they currently do before they disappear.
That's all for now, we hope you enjoy Reckoning. To give our staff a much needed break from all the hard work and instant ramen noodles during crunch time, the entire Star Vault team will be away on holiday for the entire month of April. Any GM tickets submitted during this time will be answered when we return in May.
