Hello Myrlanders!

I hope you are all well and enjoying the game!
I am an old MO1 player who was with the Older Gamers Guild back in the day (*wave* if you are reading this). I haven't bought MO2 yet because I have a few reservations even though I am very much interested in wandering around in MO's world again.

With lots of things having changed in my life between MO1 and where we are now, I'd like to ask you guys how well suited the game is for people with a more casual focus? Where I could devote several full days to gaming before, that's just not possible anymore.
I have a family to manage and nurture, an irregular working schedule to keep in mind, etc. The epitome of the mid life I guess. :)

Are there guilds around who focus more on forging a community than enforcing a sweaty pvp schedule? What about solo-ing? Or small groups in the greater world of MO2?

Thanks for your time!

I'm new to the game but from my 200 hours of experience, small group runs can take a couple of hours minimum. Soloing is fun until you get jumped randomly, then it loses it's luster.

To be frank, I'm an Old MO1 player from alpha/beta and was with the guild holding onto the trade secret to tungsteel for a long time holding GK (if you can even call it 'holding') and came after Darkfall and all, so I totally get where you're coming from, same boat with family, house, work and all. went from teens to 30s :( At least my wife plays as well thankfully.

It is quicker than MO1, levelling speed it seems. Some skills and what nots are missing, but overall it feels like a well polished MO1 with less features in its current state. If you loved MO1, go for it. Personally, I bought it, but haven't even gotten off the noob island, but maxxed out pretty much every skill for my build other than crafting knowledge and some of the advanced combat books you need from mainland (and plate armor i need still...) Only spent 77 hours playing, maybe 8 hours of just "Menu".

I also have random performance issues, dx12/dx11 regardless when the game launches, game is a slideshow (even during the booting, takes like 5 minutes to get to the menu). sometimes restarting game, computer, or just trying later fixes it, haven't reinstalled but verified files so idk...

Soloing is possible, but again... it's mortal, skill based fighting so... you know the drill :)

Thanks for your time everyone.
How bad is the random ganking just for lulz currently? I read something about a honour vs dishonour system where murderers get flagged as such. Does the system work well?

Don't get me wrong; I am not a carebear at all. I fully understand the premise of a full loot open PvP game, but I also have ample experience with people's behaviour that is definitely not in the spirit of playing a game and are just out to grief people.
In real life people just didn't axe random folk in town on a regular basis either, not even in medieval times. There are social structures, ethics and politics which offer a certain safety and restraint, which are pretty much adsent in a lot of these PvP games sadly.
It's a real catch-22 cause without enough action people will wander off playing other games, but with too much action seen as griefing the same will happen.

That said, I have been a some fairly large guilds and I have come to appreciate the smaller more social groups a lot more than those big powerhouse guilds where people don't even know eachother.

Any suggestion who to contact about smaller, but dedicated guilds?

Check the recruiting forum for guilds. As for random ganking, it can happen. I have found that the amount of it depends on what city you are near though.

So as a block b MO1 player.. I can sum up MO2 in a simple term.

"light".

It is Mortal Online Light. It took a lot of the complexity and depth out of the original Mortal Online, streamlined it, simplified it for the current crop of gamers, and gave us a decaf version of the original Mortal Online, with better graphics.

Regarding soloing, if you are someone who can break a big task into lots of smaller, shorter sub-tasks then you will have plenty of things to keep you occupied indefinitely.

I am also in my 40s and have a family but thankfully I partially work from home and have some control over my work hours. As a result, I play almost exclusively solo and team up with other players on an ad hoc or spontaneous manner.

As for the rpking, yes there are still your regular local player bandits that show themselves every so often. I got pked by a few of them a number of times, but it hasn't deterred me. It just made me change my strategy and how I go about doing things. Like a never-ending game of cat and mouse.

However, what has changed is that people in general are now more aware of what they say and do because of the one character system.

While there are some who try to get around this by having multiple MO2 accounts on different Steam accounts, you will likely see less indiscriminate rpking by disposable throwaway alt characters. Those who engage in rpk are more likely to be playing that role as a chosen playstyle and persona, which is fine.

This is also largely reinforced by the fact that new characters must attain at least clade level 2 before they can leave Haven. Which means people trying to create throwaway alts are having to spend more time and effort before they can make it to Myrland.

There is also a reputation system that punishes criminal behaviour where if a player reports you in a town after they get pked and resurrect, the murderer gets a reputation hit with that town's faction.

Likewise, if you commit a crime in town and the guards see you in the act, your reputation takes a hit in addition to them coming after you just like before in MO1.

I am like finegamingconnoisseur, and play a kind of 'social solo' game where I talk to people though the game's VOIP system and team up with strangers on the regular. I've been invited to a few guilds, but I'm not much of a joiner.

The solo lifestyle is certainly possible, but you have to keep in mind that even against a duo you are heavily outnumbered. Building and skilling into a character that can beat a hasty retreat when needed would be wise.

Mounted archery is probably the best solo character skill - but it isn't really great for pvp, despite what others might try to tell you.

In the right location, a solo farming run can take as little as 15-20 minutes. In the right location, gearing up (horse, armour, weapon) can take as little as 10 minutes. If you have spare gold, gearing up in a town with a broker is basically instant.

Frankly the map is so friken big that you can avoid most ganking if you really want. Ganking happens at the prominent farming spots or close to cities.

out in the wild its incredibly rare and completely by chance.

dont believe what people say about MAs being OP. Get yourself a high strenght long bow and you will melt their mounts and watch them run quick.

as far as what small guilds to join, it all depends where you want to live. Each town has its major large controlling guilds and a few small ones. Its also helpful to know the major alliances.

the game is fun but lacks a lot of content from MO1. In time it will be added.

To elaborate on the new repuyation system. They removed the red flag after 5 murder counts. Now you lose reputation when you get a mc. If you get low enough reputation, guards will not help you when you are attacked. They are totally indifferent to you. So you besically have a hidden red flag. You look blue to everyone but guards wont attack you if you are peaceful, but they also wont help you. You farm reputation by delivering parcels from city to city.
If you get absolutely bottom of reputation, i believe guards will attack you on sight, but nobody ever lets it get that low.

I liked this. Short and perfect explanation.
