Herius mentioned that they improved the handle crafting system. The material in the handle now matters more than in MO1.
So I tested it and I was surprised. I has more depth in it than I expected! I fucking love it!
1. Different handle types are effected differently by handle materials:
Daggers, Poleaxes and Swords: Blunt, Slashing & Piercing is affected.
Maces, Axes: Only Blunt & Slashing is affected.
2. Core material does effect piercing damage, but grip does not:
Following 2 swords have the same thrusting value:
Core/Grip/Head
Jade/Sponge/ Steel
Jade/Steel/Steel
3. The Grip bonus is affected by the core material:
Core/Grip/Head
Sponge/Sponge/Steel vs Sponge/Steel/Steel:
+0,03 weight
+0,13 blunt
+0 pierce
+0,04 slash
Core/Grip/Head
Jade/Sponge/Steel vs Jade/Steel/Sponge:
+0,03 weight
+0,24 blunt
+0 pierce
+ 0,04 slash
In both weapon pairs above I replaced the Sponge in the Grip by Steel.
In both case it added the same amount of weight compared to it's spongewood reference.
But in the second case more blunt damage was added.
4. Handle give the same absolute bonus, regardless of which material the head is made of.
Still in testing phase, so there might be more to it than I currently see...
Funfact:
Cuprum/Tungsteel (Core/Grip) is currently the strongest mace handle.
Cuprum/Cuprum and Tungsteel/Tungsteel are both weaker.
