Afterthoughts of Scenario #1 and Beyond

First off, I would like to thank the players for coming out and moving around the map to find each other or my character. In this event, I was able to meet all new people out in the world and have stories to tell with them. I would also like to thank some of the Gamemasters that assisted me for this event, and how they will help in the future. I wanted to give a mini transcript of what occurred today;

Robmo found himself looking up at the Mage Tower with his white bear Virginia before being discovered by lone traveler Kebek. Kebek was kind enough to lead him to the way to Tindrem. Being cautious, he took a longer way around towards the Cave Camp. Looking for horse, they had finally found some when something unexpected happen. Upon taming a horse, Virginia the bear got agitated and killed her master Robmo. Kebek in shock, let the bear leave. A white bear named Virginia now wonders the land with a taste for Tindremic flesh…
-----

In the Jungle, Robmo was attacked by Sators and managed to get away after his armor was destroyed. Deep in the jungle Robmo stayed the day licking his wounds before he decided to move east. He should have gone north however he was still disoriented from the attack. After some time, he finally found an escort, LadyJ. A naked wanderer with her horse. She agreed to take Robmo to Jungle camp to find someone more suited to escort the man to Tindrem. On the way, they were stopped by three brigands. LadyJ distracting these villains, let Robmo escape where he came across Undertow. The torch was passed and Undertow of FingerBang, he happened to stroll by. He led Robmo to horses so he could tame one and travel to Tindrem faster. On the way out we ran into more guild members of FingerBang and two other travellers, Kelden and Kebek once more. The rest of the trip was quite calm, and Robmo made it to Tindrem. Robmo’s goal was complete.

-----

Robmo was in the northern part of Myrland behind a bandit camp when he woke up to Kirban of the guild Nightmare. Kirban geared Robmo up and with a friend and started to take Robmo back to Tindrem through the northern path. However, the journey did not last long. A group of Cubs attacked and murdered poor Robmo. PleasingJesus, Dustey and Note took credit for the kill.

-----

Results

Kebek received a finders fee of 250g and was able to loot 100g from Robmo’s body when he died from Virginia the Bear.

LadyJ received a finder fee of 250g. Undertow and his guild FingerBang received 250g for a successful escort. Kelden and Kebek were rewarded the rest of the gold on Robmo’s person. 50g each.

Kirban received a finder’s fee of 250g. The guild of Cubs was able to loot 100g off the body of Robmo for the murder.

Reception and Success

Overall, this event did what we thought it would. It made players to move around the map, create some engagement and act as a soft stress test for the server nodes. We wanted to keep the first Scenario as simple as possible and grow from there. Most future events are likely to involve mobs, Player to player interaction versus actor-based requirements such as “Where’s Robmo”. What was surprising was that the event was not dominated by larger guilds which is exciting to promote other group or solo dynamics. This Scenario favored stealth and secret paths and the players involved showed their knowledge and skills for this event. It was great to see.

In-Game Messaging

Our intention in the future is to incorporate the messaging or hints for the Scenario within the game itself. Currently, the tools are not ready for this. For now, we will continue to use Discord, Steam Forums, Reddit and the MO2 Forums for updates or promotion. Most of our early Scenarios are designed to now have the need for Server wide updates or even constant Discord updates to work. Since we wanted to run it multiple times, informing the player of location changes we felt it was required to add proper movement around the map. In the future, we would like to do something more natural and immersive. Most events will come with an out of game supplement or image and that’s it, it will be up to the players to figure out.

Future

We would like to do our next Scenario between April 26th – March 2nd. We have not locked down a date. I had mentioned that we will be rotating times for each event so it is likely we will be starting the event at a NA prime time start next. We understand if a certain Scenario does not appeal to you, your friends or your guild but we promise to try different things each time to help give all players a chance to be interested. Can’t wait to show you what is next.

I would also like to make a special thanks to the mo2map.com cartographers. Their map was used to give hints for first Scenario and I doubt I could have made it work without them.

Next scenario idea.

From the bowels of the earth out comes a monstrous Balrog that, enraged upon seeing human infestation on the land, swiftly proceeded to wipe out every keep he comes upon.

Who will stop him?

Zombie invasion would be cool, in a large group those things are tricky to take down.

I've been playing ZOMBI quite a bit lately, and what made the game fun was the fact that if a zombie successfully pinned you down and bit you, you die and become a zombie. I know this might be a bit too much for some players, but I think it would give the walking dead a bit more of a fearsome reputation.

If we had a zombie invasion, we would see more players trying to take them down from a distance, maybe raining arrows or spells from the parapets or town walls. While a line of players with large shields would form a shield wall to keep the zombies from entering town and infecting others within. The shield would prevent zombies from biting the player from the front.

Those in town would try to keep the archers and spellcasters supplied with arrows and reagents. While those on the front lines would take cautious strikes at the zombies, darting in and out in short bursts instead of running headlong into them and letting the zombies surround them.

I think it would be an interesting experiment, just for the event for now, of course. If players like having ZOMBI-like walking dead, maybe later on SV can patch them in.

I just want the game to be good. If people would stop dueling in town all day and waiting til they have a huge zerg before leaving town, we would get content. Take your friend that you are gonna duel with, slap on some dog shit armor, and go out and walk around. When you meet people, talk to them, fight them, travel together... whatever.

Everyone in areas is allied, sucks. What people call roaming pvp is just zerging. There is no small scale almost anywhere. One of the few places you can find it is in jungle cuz people like to A. gank people so they have lil groups and B. they seem to think farming Sators in groups is good. I'm not saying that there aren't other good places, but I'd say the jungle is probably IMO the best place to go for a small scale fight with the least chance of getting zerged.

Game needs big mindset change. Fight your allies. Shoot, I was gonna make a thread or a video. Have open pvp between your allies and ally up when something SERIOUS happens. If you pvp with someone who is a friendly and take something really valuable off of them, mail it back, otherwise take the L and use it as motivation. Pvp in the wild encourages more people to jump in. Everyone talking about getting ganked doing this and that, I ride around all the time and rarely get attacked. I go toward people incase they decide they are gonna fight but most don't. The only time I get attacked is by large groups of people or I've gotten ganked a few times at the jungle node by 2 or 3 people.

IT'S A JOKE. IT'S NOT LIKE MO1. I think community events are awesome, don't get me wrong, but we shouldn't need Robmo to be leading them. All that weird stuff from MO1 like meteor drops was derpy, too, imo. I don't understand why people can't play the game as intended. We can have fun, we can leave tamers and miners alone, we can pvp and say GF. When shit actually goes down and fighting is necessary and numbers aren't deciding the outcome, that sort of experience is going to mean a lot more than dueling naked in town IMO! But who knows... I "don't know the game mechanics." :D

SIGHH. I picked the wrong day to stop PCP.

This is VERY true... I dont know how many people I see in town who rarely if ever leave town but yet are always dueling. These are the same people I hear complain that there is nothing to do in game. Yeah I get bored sometimes but I also dont always have the time I want to do something so I do what I need to do, you know busy work.

I see I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

Idk why some people are hellbent on the "make your own fun" stuff and hate events so much. People need to stop pretending that for absolutely no reason players will somehow devise fun and exciting scenarios on their own

it's make your own _____ (something happens.) Something that is fun for someone. Might not be fun to DIE but it might be fun for the people killing you. I don't hate events!

I devise fun and exciting stuff. I've been permasolo (tho I have a guild now hehh) since Mo1. All you have to do is leave town with an open mind and something exciting will happen. The more people that do that... the more excitement. It's nearly 100% success. Everything you do in the game, whether you get a mount, get money, get mats, kill someone get killed ETC... it all adds to the game and adds to the fun. Then there are sinks, leveling your pet in town, dueling in town, dumping mats to vendor (tho sometimes it can't be helped...)

Fun will happen. To be honest, I even feel a bit of happiness when I ride by and SEE SOMEONE. I see someone out there doing something and it's like SUP! Wow someone in the world. I was picking stuff the other day and some guy came up and cast magic reflect on me and my horse. haha. RobMO got eaten by his bear (assuming disloyalty) during his event. Have more faith in the game. Immerse yourself. I do think they need to stack way more 'content,' just rando interact stuff in the wild tho. But yea people can make their own fun and excitement. Obviously in the game of cops and robbers (full loot,) someone has to be losing and someone has to be gaining, so it's not always gonna be fun for everyone, but FUN will be had.

And I can devise fun and exciting scenarios, too. Maltie exits town on foot! What will happen! That's the whole point of a sandbox, isn't it? Go out, derp around, hope to make it back alive. I mean, some people are on higher level stuff, sure, but when we were new players, that's what we all did, or what I did. Now everyone is meta-ing even their risk v reward to the point where they mostly stick around town and practice when they aren't grouped up. Those kinda people( vets) prol aren't gonna go find robMO either lol.
