Uh, I did a fresh install and the problem seems to be gone. If anyone else has similar issues, try that! Verifying local files said everything was fine (multiple times), so I'm not sure what happened.

Some of us have just learnt more about character building and how they might want to play, and therefore want to re-roll the one character you are allowed? That's what I want to do.

+1 on this. Not for the potential frying of GPU, but just so we can do other GPU intensive tasks whilst waiting in the queues. A simple "turn fancy menu off" button in the settings would be great.
