At least in Myrland (though this is a significant problem in sard as well), all of the locked chests are hidden within a dungeon or a camp. This is because existing locked chests were just converted into chests that you can use a lockpick on. These chests are not designed to be lockpicked, because the time it takes to do the lockpicking minigame often exceeds the respawn time of nearby mobs. I've memorized advanced lockpick combinations and make literally no mistakes, but it's still not enough time to complete the minigame. If you want to loot these chests, you are still pretty much required to bring keys unless you're in a group who can body guard you while you pick the lock.
I'm not saying to make any changes to these chests. I'm saying more chests need to be added in hidden locations around the world that can be solo lockpicked. Sard has a few of these, but not nearly enough. Myrland has none.
